After Talking "All Day Long" To Rich New Yorkers In The Hamptons, Cuomo Says He Can't Raise Their Taxes

Governor Andrew Cuomo still refuses to support taxes on the ultra-wealthy, because rich people already have one foot out of New York City, and he fears they'll leave for good if their taxes go up.

"I literally talk to people all day long who are in their Hamptons house who also lived here, or in their Hudson Valley house or in their Connecticut weekend house, and I say, 'You gotta come back, when are you coming back?'" Cuomo said during a press conference on Monday, when asked if he'd support a slate of tax hike proposals on the wealthy.

"'We'll go to dinner, I'll buy you a drink,'" Cuomo said, reenacting his conversations. "'Come over, I'll cook.' They're not coming back right now. And you know what else they're thinking? If I stay there, I pay a lower income tax because they don't pay the New York City surcharge."

He and DeBlasio were proud of insulting Trump when he left.

Why isn’t BLM “protesting” in the Hamptons?

You gotta come back, when are you coming back?'

Correct response: Never! When will politicians realize that fixing a deficit has two avenues of attack: 1) Raising taxes (preferred), or 2) lowering spending (hated, because giving your money away keeps them in office).

NYC is dying a slow death. Crippling triple taxation, increasing crime, Work from home allowing companies to shed office space and save huge money and tanking the real estate market at the same time - the vicious cycle as people flee before their property values tank.

Well the fact that people are in nursing homes implies that they either can’t care for themselves or other people won’t.

I can see NYC getting dirty like San Francisco with feces on the roads.

He was told that if he raises their taxes they will cut off their contributions to him. That simple.

I live in New York. 70+ years of progressivism (New York basically invented it) which has warped into statist-socialism has hollowed out the state. There is a small class of super-wealthy who are a legacy of NY City’s financial markets, and who pay a large share of the taxes. The rest of the state is increasingly poor, depopulated, and dependent on government. Its a generational thing now that young people are expected to leave the state.

FWIW, Massachusetts may get a “Millionaire’s Tax”—opted by a Republican Governor!
