... seeds purportedly sent from China could be the victims of a fraudulent internet retail scheme known as a “brushing scam”
A brushing scam is an exploit by a vendor used to bolster product ratings and increase visibility online by shipping an inexpensive product to an unwitting receiver and then submitting positive reviews on the recent delivery.
...this scam gives the illusion that the business is credible by finding a person’s name and address online, sending the product to them and writing a review using their name.
“They’re also boosting sales rankings because they’re showing this high volume of product moving from point A to point B and we’ve learned it’s in Arizona, it’s in Ohio, it’s really pretty much all over the country.”
I once bought a replacement carburetor for my snow blower. They mailed it from China. It took about 3 weeks to get here.
Another interesting fact I saw on 60 Minutes. Most Fentanyl at one point in time was mailed directly from China to the USA via the USPS. Now, They put it in a container. Ship the container to Tacoma or Long Beach or some other port city and then mail it in the USPS in the USA. The USPS does not have the ability to scan for drugs like UPS and FedEx do.
Yup. I do realize that because I have a friend who works for the postal service.
Also I bought a transistor radio online a few years ago and was stunned when it showed up in a plain brown envelope covered with Chinese stamps.
Our local NBC news stationed posted the same story.
