The city of Portland, Ore. is fining the federal government $500 for every 15 minutes it maintains unpermitted fencing outside of the federal courthouse that has faced nightly attacks amid ongoing protests and rioting.

City Commissioner Chloe Eudaly said in a statement Tuesday that the fencing is obstructing the street outside of the courthouse. As of Monday, she said, the federal government owed Portland $192,000.

"We intend to collect," said Eudaly, who added that she was "committed to doing everything in my power to end this federal occupation and move forward with our community's reckoning with racial injustice and our efforts to transform our approach to policing and public safety."

So the fence needs to go "because of public safety" but riots are okay?

The feds should have declared the courthouse to be an autonomous zone, then they would have been untouchable.

If you are in a war with a ruthless foe and you are the only one playing fair.. YOU WILL LOSE! the war.

The federal government? they are going to stop the federal government? it’s time to bring in the cavalry.. look through all the books and rules ...find a hole ...and go in and stop the destruction... there are no peaceful people in that bunch.. if there were, they’d go home and get out of the mess.. no, they stay and are part of it all..

we are all more than tired of the punks getting power that just makes them worse. get them out of there!

Reply with 200 percent of damages to courthouse and personnel medical bills, then provide any overage to fed personnel injured.

Federal government didn’t show much restraint when clearing out the Bonus marchers.

“We intend to collect,” said Eudaly,

Good luck making the federal government pay an illegal “fine”.
See you in court suckers.

Perhaps it is time to board up and move all the federal employees who work in federal buildings out of the city of Portland. Actually, move them to either eastern Oregon or to Vancouver WA. Let Portland deal with the reduced payroll in their city and the loss of tax revenues.

Such fines are not enforceable against the federal government. They are a political gesture to cover Portland’s retreat. Whatever anyone says, behind the scenes, Portland’s large business interests are no doubt demanding an end to the chaos and disruption. Even the idiotic Leftists now in charge of Portland know that too severe a loss of jobs and tax revenues will endanger their grip on power.

Plus the feds need to send a bill for $1 billion to Portland for the destruction of federal property when the federal courthouses were set on fire.
Isn't making figures up from your butt great fun?

It is no longer a street. The city chooses not to keep it clear, and is choosing to fine the feds because they will not fine the protesters, who are causing the need for a wall.

I’m sure there are numerous grants that should be revoked with cause too.

I am also not clear on the authority to increase a fine, every 15 minutes...that sounds really questionable.

Deduct twice that amount from any federal funds that Portland receives.

They shouldn’t get any. If Trump refused Minneapolis any money, he can refuse to give Portland any, and he should say it on national TV.
In order for Portland to collect any money, they would need the Army on their side, and I don’t think they will get any backing from the Army.

Pay them with one of those $1 million Obambo notes that people occasionally pass out and ask for change.

Charleston, Richmond, Vicksburg, and Atlanta should be melting calculators down if Portland gets a red cent for this goofiness.

The Federal government should bill Portland for the costs of having to defend Federal property.
