The tax that would be administered is the outworking of the National Firearms Act (1934). That Act currently governs the sale of machine guns, suppressors, short barrel rifles, and other Class III weapons only.

The NFA should've been repealed back when the GOP controlled the House, Senate, and Presidency as a way to say thanks to the unwavering support the Republican Party has enjoyed from gun rights advocates.

Instead, we got a bumpstock ban.

You can thank Paul Ryan, primarily. He was not much better than Nancy Pelosi - and at least we can see her coming and know who she is.
