Gotta think about the cost of changing the R on the logo. So it makes sense to change the name to something that starts with an R and which expresses a politically correct idea or association. Therefore, I suggest:

For several years before the advent of the Internet rendered paper publications obsolete, I subscribed to the Sporting News. However, even as early as the late 1980s the contributing columnists were espousing social justice issues through the lens of sportswriting. And that was when I was done and let the subscription lapse.
Sport Illustrated had gone that same route a few years earlier.
