Fifty-five-plus books on the table and more on the way. Charter Schools and Their Enemies, another bestseller, is hot off the press. The Thomas Sowell corpus stands as one of the rare and most impressive monuments of massive and meticulous research ever erected on this earth by one person. He came up from 1930s poverty-stricken Jim Crow North Carolina, a high school dropout, a stint with the United States Marine Corps, scraping and clawing his way through the streets of post-Renaissance Harlem and then the halls of Harvard, Columbia, and the University of Chicago (Ph.D.), and now he has four decades behind him at Stanford's Hoover Institution.
One summer working a government job accomplished what multiple semesters under Nobel Prizewinning conservative economist Milton Friedman could not it separated Sowell from his Marxist views. Sowell always tests theories by real life, not the reverse. And what a fruitful separation it has been.
Sowell's books sell, and he boasts a global following, but the left works hard to keep his voice out of the mainstream and out of higher education. The pampered socialist and pre-Marxist products pumped out of our colleges and universities into the other culture-shaping institutions of America are proof enough of that.
But a smitten stream of conservatives couldn't resist Sowell when he burst onto the national scene. There he was in 1981, poised and confident at 51, seated opposite William F. Buckley on PBS's Firing Line. But how much of Sowell's unmatched wisdom has really been examined and put to fruitful use across the decades? Not nearly enough.

article about Thomas Sowell Ping
His videos are fabulous as well. Just listened to a couple recently.
Dr. Sowell was a guest for the entire hour on Life, Liberty and Levin last night..
I’m 52 and if I don’t change this body his age will be 25 years past the age I’m put in my coffin :-)
God bless him. He has been excellent for a long time.
But to his enemies he is on the wrong side and a traitor
Fabulous for a Free Traitor....
Absolutely. People who put down Dr. Sowell (on both sides of the political spectrum) have likely never read a single word he has ever written.
Their loss. Well, our loss too. The fewer who listen to him, the worse off we are.
Levin is another Cruzer anti Trump gloBULList trying to change his spots.
Myopic anti tariff Sowell would ship every job overseas then complain about the rising welfare state.
It was infuriating to hear the lengths the establishment will go to to avoid charter schools gaining hold.
I wouldn't go as far as call Sowell a moron. He is a misguided globalist shill.
You omit the primary important fact.
The good doctor lives in the present world, not some archaic fantasy world opposed by the great mass of good Americans.
There are a lot of people who are against the use of tariffs who are not traitors.
I may disagree with him on tariffs (and I do) one of the few things I do disagree with him on, but that does not mean he is a traitor.
The real world is catching up to Free Traitors. You guys have so weakened the economic power of the wage earner they are now susceptible to Marxist propaganda. Thanks Free Traitors.
To be a patriot you have to be a nationalist. To be nationalist you have to be a trade protectionist.
Break the chain and you are traitor. Simple as that.
Yes...I have had him on my Freep Page since I started on FR some years back as one of my heroes.
I give his book “Basic Economics: A Citizen’s Guide to The Economy” as a gift when the occasion calls for it.
Should have been titled: "A Globalist's Guide to The Economy"
