With the atrocious schooling I was given in high school, I’m glad my grandfather left behind all of his books about history when he passed; especially those about American history. The older they are, the closer they are to the documented events, and are at least somewhat likely to be more accurate.

That and there used to be literary standards. Most of my books are from 1960 and earlier. The earliest is so old it has no printed date.

Regarding high school history. Many times the history books were devoid of factual information. The Barbary Pirate nations were never associated with Islam. They never told us about the Astecs and the human sacrifice death religion. The Japanese and the Korean women who were forced to be sex workers. The Carib Indians and the eating of newly born babies. The history books were just about sanitized into uselessness. I guess they did not want to offend the kids with the real truth about the Human Race.
