China and the RATs gave us the “virus”.
India gave us millions of doses of HCQ to combat it.
And I’ll just leave that right there.

How about we deal with our own problems and let India,China, and Russia deal with theirs?

How about many of our problems are intrinsically intertwined with theirs?

It only takes one to cause aggression and damage.

The big question left is where will the People’s Republic of CHOP stand in such a conflict? :-)

A military conflict with China would all but destroy the sober image that Trump has carefully built with regards to foreign policy. It should be avoided at virtually all costs.

“Rescind all trade deals and ban travel to China. Ban the importation of all products made in China.”

I agree we need to limit our business with China. However, recall what prompted Japan to attack Pearl Harbor. The oil embargo meant that Japan would no longer be able to fuel its fleet. While the US thought that would bring Japan to the negotiating table the US failed to take into account that negotiating was not in Japan’s DNA. The same is true of China. They are driven by motives we would not even consider, like saving face and desperation to keep any change from happening. The recent law they passed regarding Hong Kong is one indication that they are desperate and that they believe there is no longer any point in negotiating with the US, as they are giving up the special trade relationship HK had with the US. Any further negotiation will eventually lead to the collapse of the CCP, because the things Trump is demanding would take away much of the CCP’s money base and power. (Rule of law and intellectual property rights, to name just two biggies.)

The US and China are on a collision course. One bit of leverage we still have is that the US is a huge supplier of food. It is possible that limiting trade will cause food shortages and price jumps that will cause riots and further destabilize the CCP.

There are two ways to bring about what Trump wants. One is to cause slow and inevitable change in China that eventually collapses the CCP without starting a war. The other is to destabilize the CCP into doing something desperate and stupid, like a decapitation strike, which their mouthpiece propaganda organ has threatened they would do numerous times. (Decapitation as in wiping out the US Pacific fleet and, probably Washington DC.) Yes, that sounds stupid, but even the admiral who planned Japan’s decapitation strike thought it was stupid.

Don’t plan on the CCP not doing something because we think it it stupid.

An excellent point.

You have to know your enemy.

I suspect you are dealing in hyperbole.

War is always to be avoided if possible. But at "virtually all costs"?

I doubt you mean the surrender of U.S. sovereignty, or the destruction of our Pacific fleet, or the dictating by the Chinese of the terms of our trade with them, in effect, paying them massive tribute...

This is an unusually strong statement of support for a non-treaty ally. The language, at least in part, appears to be written by President Trump, personally.

Trump policy is sometimes misunderstood. It isn't to completely isolate ourselves from the rest of the world and to 'let them deal with their problems'. It's to get involved only when American interests are at stake, and also to 'build a hyper powerful military so we never have to use it'. Diplomacy works best when it's backed by a threat of overwhelming force. American interests are very much at stake in the Indo Pacific and the two super carriers putting on a show in the South China Sea and Trump voicing support for India in a conflict with China actually *reduces* the likelihood of any conflict. Trump understands diplomacy better than anyone else.

That is kind of the whole question at issue isn’t it. I do not think the question has been answered yet.
