At that point, everybody got enraged. There were people wearing body armor. One person pulled out some loaded pistol magazine and clicked them together and said that you were next.

It is a slow process, but I started actively inviting my closest neighbors to go to the range with me a few months back. Goal is to have a few trusted folks on the block who I know are capable of safe carry should a neighborhood watch have to be established.
I live in a small community on the edge of rural mountain country and about as far to the outer perimeter of the major city as you can get, a mix of suburb and rural countryside. The protestors and riots have been going on downtown in the city, but thats 35-40 miles away for the moment. There have been some street corner protests only about 10 miles away in the suburbs, but nothing violent yet.
As I have discussed with my neighbors, where we are things arent bad yet, but that can change quickly. I physically would not be able to stand watch 24/7 so I want to know we can cover each other and that when my neighbor straps on a rifle, its not the first time he has used it since sighting it in years ago.
I think the gentleman and his wife in St Louis are what I am trying to train out of my neighbors. That is gun owners who bought an gun or guns and then put them in the closet. FRiends, if you dont train with it at least once a month, it may not work like you expect when you need it, and it could even become a liability. Get to know your gun like you know your family. Practice shooting, practice reloads, practice clearly malfunctions, practice awareness. Put yourself under time pressure or other types of stress while practicing.

Don't judge him too hard. He lives in a Democrat run city with a leftist DA that is considering whether or not to prosecute him for some made up crime against the mob.
He's under a lot of pressure to sound like he's just a good guy caught in a bad situation. And because he lives in the same neighborhood as the mayor will probably dodge that bullet.
There was information floating about that he must be a leftist as he has donated much to BLM. I've since seen that it probably isn't true but was someone else with the same last name. Difficult to be sure what his political leanings are.
The old saw, that a conservative is just a liberal that has been mugged, might apply here. He has after all just been mugged, in a most enlightening way, by the mob.
