At least five people have died after shots were fired at the Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi, according to rescue officials on Monday. Rescue and paramilitary security personnel are at the scene in an ongoing operation, Azeem said.
Video shows security and barricades outside the stock exchange in Karachi, according to CNN affiliate Geo News.
Abid Ali, director of the Pakistan Stock Exchange, said in a media briefing on Geo News that four attackers entered the compound and started firing but were killed by security forces.
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) group has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to Maj. Gen. Omar Ahmed Bukhari, the director general of the Pakistan Rangers Sindh, a paramilitary force under command of the country's military.
The BLA has conducted a low-level separatist insurgency against targets in Pakistan for nearly two decades. The group was initially formed due to anger over the state's perceived monopoly over Balochistan province's mineral resources.
It has previously killed and kidnapped Chinese engineers working in the province.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange administration sent out a message saying that "rangers" had entered the compound and that "four terrorists" were dead.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi is the country's largest. It's located in the city's financial hub, where all major banks and financial services are located and where there is usually a heavy security presence.

Balochistani Lives Matter..............
Sell!!!
It’s sort of a generalized attack on capitalism, ranging from small businesses in the US to the markets in developing countries.
Marxism is on the march and we’ve got to resist it.
Right after 9/11 Grasso, then the President of the New York Stock Exchange, hired recently retired NYPD Swat team members, dressed them like floor traders, armed them with Uzis and Glocks and had them walk around the trading floor incognito. He was ahead of his time. The demand for private security is soaring. Any smart NYPD officer that can should retire and then work in armed security. They will be safer, more appreciated and better provide for their families.
At least 5 people dead and the 4 who started it all are dead. That means only one innocent was killed. They must have been very incompetent terrorists. Probably all that inbreeding.
Pretty pointless operation. If you’re going to take hostages and not kill them, then why take them? Then there’s the fact that killing random civilians serves no good military or political purpose. Far better to ambush security people or target pols. These rebels are real knuckleheads who need more competent leadership. Definitely not the Vietcong, from a PR perspective. I will give them points for the guts to embark on what they probably knew would be a one-way mission. They just need better direction and leaders who know not to waste highly-motivated men on pointless snipe hunts like these.
BLM halfwits and their allies will be attacking the NYSE one day.
Didn’t some group try that already?...................
Dang. There goes my investment in goat futures.
Dunno
Low-level??
Like the "low-level" communist uprising all across the U.S. is just "low-level" peaceful protest...
Another CNN cover-up via fake news...
They have a stock exchange? Is it in a cave?
To explain, Balochistan is an imaginary country that overlaps both Pakistan and Iran, and makes trouble for both of them, before fleeing across the border for safe haven in the other nation.
