Instead simply keep the are directly surrounding the White House and Capitol as a federal district and allow the rest to join Maryland.

But the 23rd Amendment would still be in effect. This would give the President 3 Electoral votes since he’d be the only resident in the District..

To make the District a state, which is absurd, in my opinion, they’re going to have to amend the Constitution.

Pelosi knows that the Senate won’t pass this bill at this time with a Republican Senate. She wants the Dems to be able to further anger Blacks before the election by saying that racist Republicans don’t want them to have equal representation, and point to DC as proof. This is just another election talking point. However, if the Dems actually win the Senate and Biden is elected, then the Dems really will pass this into law.

There was a reason the founding fathers wanted DC to be a separate entity but at the same time a part of the US. There is a Washington DC delegate in the House of Representatives. The delegate can only vote on procedural matters. Also the House was supposed to run DC but gave that power up to a Mayor as more and more was put onto the plates of the House. DC was designed not to be a state nor part of a state. Philadelphia and New York City were early candidates of becoming the Capital of the US but Congress said no. D.C. was intended to be independent of all of the states for a reason. Something most have forgotten to annals of history.

They shouldn’t. The entire DC region should not have a vote. Same goes for state capitals as well, which have mostly become Commie Red zones.

We’ve become too much a democracy and too little of a Republic, and we were NOT founded as, nor ever intended to be, a democracy. Democracies consume themselves, especially when they discover they can vote to steal money from other people who actually work for a living. Notice how DC never suffers during economic downturns and there are never actual cutbacks in the size of government. Not in almost 100 years since President Harding has any real cutbacks happened.

Fun fact: D.C. was “enfranchised” during Reconstruction by Republicans. The city, in a short period, had one leader who massively spent the District into ginormous debt (Boss Alexander Robey Shepard, the Governor of DC). Congress had to rescind the self-governance and go to a Board of Commissioners for almost the next 100 years due to the malfeasance.

Lets add to the bill to combine ny, vt,nh,me,ma,and ct into one large state. That would make the dems lose probably 8 or nine senators

Article One of the Constitution is very clear why DC was not made a state. It explains in scope and breadth the purpose Our Founders made DC to be independent and the Dems only want the two electoral college delegates it would give them since it is a Liberal area.

Easy solution.

Repeal 16/17 amendments.

FedGov is required to go through the budget process, final $$ amount is divided by 535.

Each State is responsible for a share of the Fed’s budget based on their number of CongressCritters.

Any additional appropriations are split the same way.

States that can’t meet payments lose their voting power, and have other restrictions placed on them.

Long term, this’ll likely force a bunch of the smaller States to merge, since Senators are taking home an outsize share of the budget, as they aren’t allocated based on population size.

How can Washington, D. C. be a state when it is only a city? If D.C. were to become a state, what would stop other cities from seceding from their states and becoming states? I know this sounds crazy, but no crazier than D. C. becoming a state. Nope! Those who set up D.C. as a non-state were so much smarter than those that want to change it.
