WASHINGTON — The Senate has approved the nomination of a Mississippi judge to a federal appeals court, the 200th federal judge named by President Donald Trump and confirmed by the Republican-controlled chamber. It’s the highest number of judicial nominees confirmed at this stage of a presidency in four decades.

Cory Wilson was elevated to a seat on the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal despite Democratic objections that he has a record of working to undermine voting rights of African Americans and other minorities.

Approval came on a nearly party-line, 52-48 vote Wednesday. Maine Sen. Susan Collins was the only Republican to vote against Wilson.

There are no more Circuit court of appeals vacancies. There are District vacancies.

53 Circuit judges confirmed in less than four years. Obama had 55 in EIGHT years!

I’m not a big fan of Mitch McConnell but he’s done a good job here. Credit where credit is due.

After Trump is re-elected this fall, there will be a bunch of new Circuit Court vacancies from retirement of DemocRAT appointees who have held back hoping Trump is not re-elected.

“Maine Sen. Susan Collins was the only Republican to vote against Wilson.”

Wrong.

She’s not a Republican.

“Maine Sen. Susan Collins was the only Republican to vote against Wilson.”

Ok...and, so how many Democrats voted FOR him?

Or is that not as important to know?

The fact that it was 52-48 is encouraging. That tells me he’s probably going to be faithful to the constitution.

Thanks, Mitch! You haven’t been TOTALLY worthless after all! :)

Lovely how this has been done with relatively little fanfare.

Thank you, Mr. President! :)

This should be Mitch McConnell's legacy. He's done yeoman's work here helping our President get this task done. This is how courts get reshaped for decades to come.

She's up for re-election, that's why she voted NO after voting for Brett Kavanaugh.

Not only that, he held up a lot of Obama’s nominee so that by the time Trump took over, there were lots of vacancies.

Yes.
She did what she had to do to win reelection.
I hope it helps her win. I’d much rather have her than a Democrat any time any day.

Considering one of Trump’s Supreme Court picks turned out to be a raving leftist, I’ll hold my celebration for a while longer.

Not only that, he held up a lot of Obama’s nominee so that by the time Trump took over, there were lots of vacancies.

He also, at great political risk to himself, held a Supreme Court opening which Trump was able to fill.
