As Texas hits all-time high in new COVID-19 cases, Gov. Greg Abbott tightens outdoor gathering rules

Posted on 06/23/2020 3:03:23 PM PDT by bjcoop

AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott sternly warned Texans of “rampant” spread of coronavirus that took the state to a new high Tuesday of more than 5,000 new cases in a single day.

Saying Texans should stay home unless they have a good reason to venture out, Abbott late Tuesday afternoon gave local officials more powers to limit public gatherings during the upcoming Fourth of July weekend.

He expanded the ability of mayors and county judges to restrict outdoor gatherings of over 100 people -- down from the previous limit of more than 500 people in outdoor gatherings. Previously, this applied only to outdoor gatherings over 500 people. Abbott also told the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to enact emergency rules that provide strict health and safety standards and procedures related to COVID-19 for child care centers in Texas. The decrees were based on data showing an increase in COVID-19 transmission stemming from large gatherings and child care centers, the governor’s office said

> But to extrapolate this into Trump losing a national election is a bridge to far.

Oy vey.

So yo don't think the Dems will steal Texas if mail in voting is allowed in the general?

That was my point.

I went in to a hospital today for an upper and lower GI. Most of the doctors weren’t wearing them. The nurses were back and forth but mostly with their noses showing. Just doing what the lawyers tell them to do...

I live in rural-ish Texas. Was rural, but the way the metroplex is expanding, it probably won’t be rural for much longer.

The major cities are where the snowflakes live and wear masks and scream at you if you don’t wear one. Here in the sticks, it’s pretty much normal and I have a feeling will stay that way... Normal Texans are done with this sh*t.

In Arizona, case numbers are exploding. In part because we’re testing over 7 times as many people a day now versus April. But the vast majority of new cases are in the under-45 crowd, and 80% have no chronic conditions. That is why the death rate continues down - the people who are NOW catching it are the people who usually survive without much trouble.

I view it as a good thing.

Once we have herd immunity this thing will die out!! As long as Abbott have a tight reign on the nursing homes Texas will be fine!! Some e was on this evening saying that the southern states using air conditioning now could be causing the problem the air conditioners circulating cold air in homes, work places, ect.

I view it as a good thing too, herd immunity will get us out of this, virus will fizzle out!! Seniors are being extremely careful and nursing homes are under strict regulations!! We will not see what we have seen in the Dem states we will NOT see the fatalities we saw there!!

1. If you are covid-19 positive, why enter the hospital (unless an emergency) where the virus could complicate recovery from an elective procedure?

2. Why would a hospital admit a person with covid-19 (except under emergency conditions) and risk spreading to other patients and staff ?

I view your use of reason as disturbing.

“He has to let the disease run it’s course.”

The problem is that no one knows what it’s course is or , more precisely, how long it’s course is/will be.

Lock it all down! Turn off the power! Close the gas stations! Burn it all! Right, Deep State?

We know that we have the ability to deal with it with most people and that it’s death rate is relatively low. Lockdowns do nothing to stop it’s spread, and in fact, may increase it.

Cases may be up, but what is the hospitalization rate? That’s the number that matters. If the cases don’t require hospitalization then the effect on the system isn’t occurring.

Actually not deaths or cases, but the number of cases requiring active hospitalization at any one time.

I don’t live in Texas, but I refuse to accept a “New Normal”.

Life is back to normal and that’s the way it will stay.

If the criminals can riot, Americans can gather without any restrictions.

Mail in voting IS allowed in a general election. Why do you think it isn’t? Anyone...ANYONE can request and will get an absentee ballot, at least they can in every State I have lived in.

A problem arises when mail in balloting is REQUIRED due to a lockdown.
