Khairi Saadallah, the Libyan refugee who has been detained on suspicion of perpetrating the knife attack in Reading, was released early from prison, was enrolled in the governments Prevent deradicalisation scheme, and is believed to have been known to the UKs security services as a possible terror suspect before the attack.
Saadallah had been sentenced in October 2019 to 25 months and 20 days in prison for breaching a suspended jail term, racially motivated assault, criminal damage, and affray (public fighting) yet only served 17 months and 20 days behind bars.
In March, the Court of Appeal decided to cut the prison sentence for the 25-year-old short, releasing him 16 days before the terrorist attack took place this past Saturday, June 20th.

“Known to MI5”
I’ve seen that phrase a few times. Does MI5 give them back rubs or what?
Same stuff going on here. Instead of MI5 it is the FBI or police. Their is only “compassionate” quick release instead of accountability.
When governments fail their basic duty to protect the citizens...
We’re seeing a lot of this lately.
Someday our leaders will realize, hopefully before it’s too late, that terrorists that are true believers in their cause should just be executed. They cannot rehabilitated.
Another Known Wolf.
> Known to MI5 <
I find that phrase to be odd as well. I guess the authorities say that so they dont look clueless. We knew about this guy! So now they just look incompetent.
Clueless or incompetent. I actually dont know which one is worse.
It used to be that MI5 had no power of arrest only the power to investigate. Arrest was done by Scotland Yard Special Branch. I guess that’s still the case.
MI6 should have been in on this since the perp reportedly followed a foreign terrorist organization and might have had contact with them.
Oh those silly Brits. So many titles, so little competence.
They knew him, took hm out to lunch a few times a week, helped him move a new couch to his apartment, collected his mail when he was out of town...
You might have second thoughts about that last sentence if you were to look up the ratio of terrorist plots detected and prevented against attacks actually carried out.
Too many attacks have come from “known” i.e. watchlist lone wolves. The British have a reluctance to due a deep surveillance on Moslems. The mayor of London is a Moslem anti-Semite and Marxist. He controls the regular police to some extent.
MI 6 would be out of his purview. Probably the same for MI5 but they have been infiltrated enough to raise eyebrows and worries.
Now that the pandemic has made us all armchair experts in mortality statistics, it's possible to get some perspective on the scale of Islamic terrorism in the UK. The total number killed is 95. This is about 0.3% of the 3000+ killed by IRA and other Irish terrorism in the 1970s/90s, about 1.5% of those killed by accidental drowning, and about 3 times those killed by lightning strikes.
I mention this only because the impression is sometimes given here that Islamic terrorism is virtually a weekly occurrence in the UK. Of course one death is too many.
Correction: the Islam/IRA etc figure should of course be 3%, not 0.3%.
The large scale mass grooming and rape of British children by muslim gangs is I would say a far more serious problem than the very occasional terrorist attack because of the sheer numbers of victims involved.
