“I wouldn’t be a part of tearing down US statues but if I did it would be Andy Jackson’s”

I’ll be glad to take the government portraits of him in your wallet off your hands! Andy Jackson was a tough hombre his whole life. I can see why descendants of the Eastern Tribes might not love him. Ironically, the town next door to me is Jackson, MO, named after him by veterans from the Battle of New Orleans. The Jackson High School team name is the Indians.

Well, if he can federalize ‘em for Iraq and other overseas conflicts, he certainly can federalize them at home, as far as I’m concerned.

yep....I think he's considered the founder of the dims for what it's worth. This is what wiki has to say.

Tracing its heritage back to Thomas Jefferson and James Madison's Democratic-Republican Party, the modern-day Democratic Party was founded around 1828 by supporters of Andrew Jackson, making it the world's oldest active political party.

Ditto. What Jackson did to native Americans in violation of a Supreme Court ruling justifies his removal.

My question is why isn’t Trump designating these statues as historical landmarks and federally protecting them? Is this some sort of sick way to try to garner votes for himself in September? Its only a matter of time before Mt. Vernon, The Hermatage and Monticello are burned to the ground.

I never thought Id see the day where the United States of America would look like downtown Baghdad when ISIS took over..they burned down buildings, tore down statues, and destroyed books they did not like, sound familiar

I'm with you on that one. There's little that can be done for people who refuse to learn history.
Those who choose to see the truth will find great instruction in the fact that the founder of the Democrat party was the cruelest of slave masters as well as a mass murderer.

“Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal Act resulted in the death...”

When I taught this bit of history to my Jr. High students, I’d point out the likely real reason for the removal was the discovery of gold in Georgia and North Carolina. Can’t have the Indians sitting on gold! The measure of how civilized the “Civilized Tribes” were was how they reacted. They went to court! They took it all the way to the Supreme Court and won. Jackson’s reply was “The Court has made its ruling, let it enforce it” and ordered the removal anyway.

Jackson, no doubt didn’t have a high opinion of Indians, having grown up on the frontier and fought them in Florida. But he won East and West Florida for the U.S. won an important victory at New Orleans (yes, the war was technically over) and was the first ‘common’ man to be elected President. A political party, the Whigs, was formed to oppose him, and as long as he lived he was a political force in the early U.S.

I live a few miles from one of the places where the Indians crossed the Mississippi in the winter time.

Andrew Jackson was a total jerk, the Bolton of his age. He hated Indians, blacks, Spaniards and Catholics. But still, he was the 7th president of the US, first Territorial Governor of Florida (and founder of the Democratic Pary in 1828) and most of his hideous and vicious policies had already been voted on and approved by the US Congress. So while I don’t like him, he’s important and his statues should stay. With heavy interpretation,

And I certainly wouldn’t have imagined that it would all take place under President Trump’s administration.

Yeah man this is crazy. I know white people have been killing each other for a long time. But I don’t know if any white people killed other white people just because they were white before this .

It almost sounds like a comedy skit
