Newly released documents reveal the FBI never had even preliminary evidence of a Trump campaign conspiracy with Russia, and instead used a rarely enforced statutory relic the Foreign Agents Registration Act as the legal rationale for opening investigations in 2016-2017 and surveilling Trump campaign aides.
On July 31, 2016, the FBI opened a counterintelligence probe of the Trump campaigns alleged ties with Russia nicknamed Crossfire Hurricane not under espionage conspiracy laws but under FARA.
The next month the FBI opened four separate FARA cases into people associated with the Trump campaign. Two other FARA cases were added the next year. Only one involved an individual with connections to Russia: Carter Page.
The recently disclosed documents, which surfaced thanks to declassification efforts, court filings and FOIA lawsuits, reveal that the initial target of the probe then-Trump foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos -- was suspected of working for Israel, not Russia. Other FARA cases involved alleged ties to Turkey (Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn), Ukraine (campaign manager Paul Manafort and his deputy Rick Gates) and Egypt (Trump Mideast adviser Walid Phares).
All six sensitive cases were approved through the Justice Departments counterintelligence and export control section, run at the time by former Justice official David Laufman.
Before the flurry of Trump-related cases, only three people had been found guilty of violating the seldom-enforced law since 1966. Passed in the run-up to World War II to curb Nazi propaganda, FARA mainly requires people to fill out a two-page form disclosing work on behalf of a foreign entity.

At the least, jail.
We keep re-learning that the Deep State staged a coup against President Trump. We keep re-learning that there was no basis for the investigation. We keep re-learning that everyone knew that it was bogus. We keep re-learning that the coup still went forward.
What’s the point?
Oh. Did someone finally find the collusion statute?
We need to replace the words “The FBI...” with “The Obama Administration.......
An educated guess might be when the ambient temperature in the Lake of Fire drops below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sean Hannitys 1% seems to be a vast slice of chieftains of the so-called intelligence service.
Bingo.
Absolute power with no checks and balances during the Obama administration emboldened those who ran these agencies to attempt to overturn an election they disagreed with. In fact, had HRC won, they would have continued and likely increased prosecutions of their political opponents.
We used to rely on the media, congress, and the courts to prevent such abuses, but they are part of the problem now.
The government will never do that. We will be lucky if even one of them serves time. It’s a good ‘ole boys club that protects each other.
It’s starting to look like the only solution would that after the marxists succeed is destroying the US, the people take it back and fix the problem like out forefathers. Currently, the government has either sided with the marxists or is too weak willed to do anything about it. Those few that do fight are too small to make much of a difference.
Bill Barr is going to get right on that. He has a manicure scheduled for 2pm so looking at his calendar he should be free to pursue the coup stuff at .... let’s see .... the 25th of Never.
The point seems to be to reiterate that there are no consequences when Leftists commit crimes, up to and including treason.
When they “deem” the election won by Biden, do you really think anyone will do anything about it?
Biden could get 400 million votes and the media would shrug and say “nice landslide”.
[Future news] David Laufman was found dead of apparent suicide...
