~ Hall of Heroes ~ Robert F. Stryker Info from here. |
|
Robert F. Stryker (November 9, 1944-November 7, 1967) was a United States Army soldier received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Vietnam War. He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery Throop, New York. The Army Stryker vehicle is named in his and PFC Stuart S. Stryker's honor. |
Rank and organization: Specialist Four, U.S. Army, Company C, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. Place and date: Near Loc Ninh, Republic of Vietnam, November 7, 1967. Entered service at: Throop, N.Y. Born: November 9, 1944, Auburn, N.Y. Citation:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Specialist Stryker, U.S. Army, distinguished himself while serving with Company C. Spec. Stryker was serving as a grenadier in a multicompany reconnaissance in force near Loc Ninh. As his unit moved through the dense underbrush, it was suddenly met with a hail of rocket, automatic weapons and small arms fire from enemy forces concealed in fortified bunkers and in the surrounding trees. Reacting quickly, Spec. Stryker fired into the enemy positions with his grenade launcher. During the devastating exchange of fire, Spec. Stryker detected enemy elements attempting to encircle his company and isolate it from the main body of the friendly force. Undaunted by the enemy machinegun and small-arms fire, Spec. Stryker repeatedly fired grenades into the trees, killing enemy snipers and enabling his comrades to sever the attempted encirclement. As the battle continued, Spec. Stryker observed several wounded members of his squad in the killing zone of an enemy claymore mine. With complete disregard for his safety, he threw himself upon the mine as it was detonated. He was mortally wounded as his body absorbed the blast and shielded his comrades from the explosion. His unselfish actions were responsible for saving the lives of at least 6 of his fellow soldiers. Spec. Stryker's great personal bravery was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...you and Blue had a great adventure day today. Foot feeling better?
Is Penny finding a perfect place to rest in her mud room?
We had some nice sun and then a short downpour. Any rain is welcome.

As far as the foot goes...I am not out of the woods yet, but it is a lot better.
I have a breezy covered deck and Penny loves it.
We had some very violent thunderstorms this afternoon, JUST as I pulled in with Blue and covered her up for the night.
Penny doesn’t like the thunder, so I was glad i got home in time to comfort and reassure her.

June 22Eternal Eyes
We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.
2 Corinthians 4:18 Eternal eyes, thats what my friend Madeline prays her children and grandchildren would have. Her family has gone through a tumultuous season that ended with the death of her daughter. As the family grieves from this horrific loss, Madeline longs for them to be less and less nearsightedconsumed by the pain of this world. And to be more and more farsightedfilled with hope in our loving God.
The apostle Paul and his co-workers experienced great suffering at the hands of persecutors and even from believers who tried to discredit them. Yet, they had their eyes fixed on eternity. Paul boldly acknowledged that we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Although they were doing Gods work, they lived with the reality of being hard pressed on every side, perplexed, persecuted, and struck down (vv. 89). Shouldnt God have delivered them from these troubles? But instead of being disappointed, Paul built his hope on the eternal glory that supersedes momentary troubles (v. 17). He knew Gods power was at work in him and had complete assurance that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus (v. 14).
When our world around us feels shaky, may we turn our eyes to Godthe eternal Rock that will never be destroyed.
By: Estera Pirosca Escobar Reflect & Pray
In what do you choose to hope in spite of your difficulties? How have you experienced Gods faithfulness?
I lift my eyes to You today, O God. Give me a glimpse of the security I have in You.

Howdy, Kathy.
I hope you got at least one of the rain showers I saw on the airport cam. A couple of them looked pretty heavy.
A few showers came through our area today but missed us for the most part. We got a couple of sprinkles.

Got one of them late afternoon....sounded so cool on my skylight.
Wish it would have lasted more than 10 minutes.
A few sprinkles are better than none. Are the beans needing lots?

Hi, radu!
It was good. I actually went to bed "early-ish" so I got up before the alarm, which is great. The alarm makes me a grumpy-puss. LOL!
Hope your day went well too. Did you get any rain? We had another hailstorm last night and about 1/2 inch of rain. Yay!
