In professional sports there are actually two different groups of customers: the fans and the corporate advertisers. In the age of televised sports, the fans will always lose out to the corporate sponsors if a league or team must pander to one group at the expense of the other.

That’s not the reason. It’s because they have joined the America-hating lunatics.

When I was growing up, long before soccer had any popularity in America, my father taught me that soccer was a "foreigner sport". I never had a desire to play, probably because I thought I would not be taken to and from practices. How right he was so many years ago. He said the same of hockey, but that didn't stop me from playing that sport. But, now I realize he was correct about that too. He didn't have the foresight to say that about the Negro Football League (NFL), but I will teach my children and grandchildren well.
Happy Father's Day all.

Taking a moment to honor and show respect and appreciation for your homeland IS NOT virtue signaling.
Good grief...

Do they sing the national anthem at your place of work at the start of every day?
If not, do you think they should?
Professional sports is a big business. These leagues are suddenly so dismissive of the national anthem today for the same reason they introduced it in the first place: It's nothing more than a marketing gimmick to them.
Sorry to pee in your cornflakes, dude ... but it's true.

During the Six Nations Rugby competition national anthems are played. It is almost seems a competition between the teams to see which team can sing its anthem the most enthusiastically.
The only exception is Ireland. Because all of Ireland plays as one team, they play two or even three anthemsone for the Republic, and one a generic “We all love Ireland” kind of anthem.
They don’t take a knee...

International competitions are a different story. National anthems should always be played when you have NATIONAL teams competing on the field.
I love watching those European rugby teams sing their anthems, BTW. The national anthem of Wales puts all the others to shame!

Laugh all you like, when you referred to our national anthem
being played before sporting events as virtue signaling, you
lost the debate.
Ignorance is bliss I guess. You really are out there at
times.

Well, youre entitled to your opinion. You might want to consider that I know a thing or two about how these major sports organizations work ... since I have worked for several clients in that industry over the years.

You might want to consider that as a U. S. Citizen for 69
years, I love my nation and appreciate the moment of
reflection on it’s virtues during the anthem before games.

I didnt question YOUR motivations, dude. Im simply pointing out why these sports teams have been playing the national anthem for YOU.
At your age, doesnt it seem odd to be standing for the national anthem before you sit down to watch a bunch of Dominicans, Venezuelans and Mexicans throw a baseball around a field? :-P

Okay, I get it. You don’t respect my values, our anthem, or
our nation.
Why don’t you just move along.
You’ve twisted it about every which way you can, except
realizing that U. S. Citizens respect our nation and want our
traditions kept alive.
Go ankle bit someone else.

Is the national anthem heard at local sports events? Yes, at least where more real Americans are present.
