Lock Him Up: Date set for resentencing of man who attacked Rand Paul
Lexington Herald Leader ^ | June 18th | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

A new sentencing date has been set for a Kentucky man who tackled U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, breaking several of the lawmaker's ribs.

Rene Boucher was scheduled to be resentenced on July 27 on a count of assaulting a member of Congress, the Bowling Green Daily News reported.

Boucher had served a 30-day sentence, paid a $10,000 fine and performed community services after pleading guilty to attacking his then-neighbor Paul over a lawn maintenance issue along their property line in 2017.

Paul had six broken ribs and later suffered bouts of pneumonia and underwent surgery to remove part of his damaged lung.

Federal prosecutors appealed the sentence, stating 30 days was too lenient considering Paul’s injuries. A federal appeals court agreed with prosecutors in September 2019 and ordered Boucher to be resentenced, vacating his 30-day sentence.

Not long enough > IMO.

He very well could have killed Paul, and he did inflict the
most damage he could.

That violent a person should not be free to do it again.

I’d like to see something more along the lines of five years
minimum.

Imagine if someone did something like that to Pelosi or
a number of other characters in the House or Senate.

Leftists shouldn’t be able to get away with things like,
this and frankly neither should Conservatives.

This was a chicken-s—t move.

This guy needs a heck of a lot more damage done to him than 21 months of prison.

I am sick of criminals being able to pick an innocent and abuse them in ways that can never be recovered.

In the absence of recovery, I believe torture should be on the table. Whatever a criminal thought was legally acceptable to an innocent should be done four times worse to the criminal. So, break 4X the ribs/bones, create four times the bad lung area, etc.

It can’t possibly be “inhumane” if a criminal thought it was completely acceptable to do on an innocent person.

What is the maximum under the law? ‘assaulting a Member of Congress’.

I know its a specific crime but I don’t know what the max sentence is..

I didn't know either.

I think this should be what we are looking for.

Here you go: 1610. Assault -- 18 U.S.C. 351(e)

He tackled the Senator? Like in football?

Why not say he assaulted Senator Paul?

Never mind, it was a rhetorical question.

When Antifa attacks conservatives, they get misdemeanors. When ex-US Soldiers put those little faggots down, they get 10 year felonies. What if a conservative attacked a Democratic Senator? You think it would be 30 days?

10 years and a fine is the maximum per USC.

Apparently the guy was anal about other peoples property next to his if they weren’t up to his standards of lawn care. (His property was kept by professionals).

Paul’s going to have continual pain, even if the ribs healed, for the rest of his life. Not to mention going without part of his lung....

The fact he ambushed Paul didn’t help his case.

He actually ambushed Paul from behind, he was wearing ear muffs as he was cutting branches so he never saw the guy coming.

Rand Paul has said the fact that it was about lawn clippings is not true. He said it was purely politically motivated. He said he had problems with him before and was a known liberal who disliked Rand.
