New York was named after the Duke of York. The Duke of York, King James II, was a prominent slave trader. When will New York (& New York City) be renamed due to it's name being prominently connected to a major slave trader?
"...James Stuart, who later became King James II, was the original governor of the Royal Africa Company and its largest shareholder. Therefore anything named for the Duke of York is, like Penny Lane, tainted by the history of the slave trade. By this logic, we must rename New York."
https://spectator.org/yesterday-came-suddenly/
"Island New Amsterdam (New Amsterdam),[53] after the capital city of the Netherlands, which was to become present-day New York. The English took over the colony in 1664 during the second Anglo-Dutch War. They changed the name to New York, to honor the Duke of York, who later became King James II of England and James VII of Scotland. The Dutch surrendered Nieuw Amsterdam without fighting."

Chartered in 1672, the Royal African Company was a royally chartered company which had a legally based monopoly on English trade to West Africa until 1698.

"Led by the kings younger brother James, the Duke of York (later King James II), this group had a monopoly on British trade with West Africa, including gold, silver and slaves."

Of course this is absurd, however, it makes about as much sense as all the other nonsense that is going on out there now regarding history, the tearing down of statues and demands for name changes.

They won’t stop with the renaming stuff.
When that doesn’t work, when that doesn’t make them feel better about themselves, they’ll want more.
Could well end up with some sort of attempted genocide.

I propose that we should abolish any and all names or titles
that anyone finds offensive, for any reason.
The first one I want changed is Clinton, Connecticut. I dont
want a place to have the name of an impeached president.
Also, any place that has appropriated an Indian name, should be changed. Example, Seattle, Schenectady, Erie, etc.

Based on the contours of current city life and the ideals, lifestyles and beliefs of the NYC people, NYC can be renamed P.O.S City.
The state? Another matter.

Well, by that reasoning Black Africans should pay reparations to Black Americans for rounding them up and selling them to French slave traders at the Barbery coast. White Americans rescued them and employed them at one of the most kind examples of slavery in the history of mankind and eventually set them free.
. Therefore Black Americans OWE the white people of America for setting them free from the horrors and despair of Africa.
. I will take my payment in gold krugerands or cash USD please

I know your joking, but there was an attempt at such a name change in another State. In the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations there was a State constitutional amendment proposed by its State legislature in 2010 to remove "and Providence Plantations" from the State's name. The reason for the proposal was that the word "plantations" made people think of the antebellum South.
The People of Rhode Island overwhelmingly rejected this PC-based amendment. The vote was 78% against to 22% in favor.

James II was an equal opportunity slave trader. After Monmouth's half baked rebellion, His Majesty, the Queen and many at court vigorously pursued receiving captives who were condemned to slavery or long terms as indentures in the West Indies. It became sort of a prestige thing at court to get some condemned rebels to be able to sell them as pure profit. These were good strong farmers from places such as Bridgewater, who were considered prime beef on the slave traders block in Bristol. Also a good many nice strong young farm girls were also condemned, sometimes for just wearing their lover or brothers handkerchief as a token of support. Lots of all sorts of white guys and girls from Scotland and Ireland and the west of England got to take a very long visit to Barbadoes or Jamaica. in the 17th and early 18th centuries,
