Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields resigned her position Saturday afternoon, less than 24
hours after an APD officer shot and killed Rayshard Brooks after a struggle in the parking
lot of a fast food restaurant on the city's south side.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said in a Saturday press conference the decision to
resign was former Chief Shields' and the mayor said she accepted the resignation.

According to the MSM the Chief was a APD veteran of over 20 years. She started as a patrol officer and held just about every command title. It appears she may have resigned when or near the moment the shooting officer was fired by the black mayor; she has a new job with the APD.

I am purely speculating that she was well-liked given the length of her service and having two criminal law degrees and uniformed street experience, that she did not endorse the mayor's charge of unjustified shooting.
