No-Knock raids seem dangerous for everyone involved. Since I think its something both republicans and democrats could agree with I doubt it will pass.
Yeah, but she wasnt killed by Feds, was she?
I’m for this one. Police shouldn’t play CQB soldiers.
On balance Paul MIGHT be right. There have been more than a few tragedy’s from these things. Yes it gives the bad guys a chance to dump some small amounts of drugs but too may have gotten killed when the cops got the wrong house. On the other hand they prevent an armed standoff or hostage set up. So it is a tough call.
No knocks and asset forfeiture both must go.
What happened to that lady could have happened to any one of us. After all, when you hear your front door come crashing in, would you first think to lie prone on the floor with your arms extended? I wouldnt.
So yes, this is a good move by Paul. But its important to note that his bill would apply to federal officers only.
This is a good thing. But, it is dangerous for the officers. But as a armed citizen if someone were to break into my house unannounced, I would shoot them.
Other than MS, FB, Amazon not selling face recognition SW until there are federal protections, this is one more good thing to come out of this whole mess.
They will never stop stupid or violent cops from being stupid or violent, since they are a sample of the population. To be clear I am not picking on cops. However, things like this can help get control of our overpowering of our police, which I do believe it a real solvable problem. The problem occurs when you get this small subset of cops that is a cross section of the negatives of our population, and combines them with the powerful tools developed by SW engineers to make it hard for anyone to hide in plain sight.
In the olden days they used to send out individual deputies with a list of people to arrest. Now, they either send four or they go in with a SWAT group. I had some elderly and infirm renters who had “my” door knocked down by 12 SWAT members who arrived at three AM in an armored car. The day before the deputies had put this drunk and disorderly couple to bed after noticing forty 10 inch pot plants. Was this necessary? Why didn’t they arrest them instead of putting them to bed? I wouldn’t ban no-knock raids. But I’d like to see the sheriff himself and the local top political leader both sign off on them before they happen. That would cut it down to just where it’s appropriate. (Instead of letting the gung-ho types play dress-up and be macho._)
No-Knock raids should end, same with civil forfeiture.
Is the problem no-knock, or is it overriding fear and stupidity?
As for her being used as a poster child for racism, again, I doubt that is the reason. Seems to me cop just had a super-itchy trigger finger.
This should be a no-brainer - no-knock warrants must end. I don’t understand how such a warrant is currently legal.
No knocks and asset forfeiture is very dangerous.
Barring No-knock warrants well so mush for having a raid what do they have to do next call and give them a 1/2 hour warning they are coming.
Stupidity from D.C. on the march.
No knock raid might have a purpose but they have been misused and overused. If PCs can use them responsibly, and innocent citizens are being killed, then they should be ended.
Ever since the "USA Patriot Act" and DHS came about, the violence level and intrusive scanning and tracking of citizens has exploded. Even dogs are routinely killed by cops, and We The Sheeple seem fine with it.
I get a lot of pushback on this here, but there is nothing "conservative" about an unrestricted police state.
No knock raids should be completely banned. They are a flagrant violation of the 4th Amendment. Get a warrant, walk up to the door and knock. And don’t shoot the dog.
Agree. These no-knock warrants arent good for the cops or the innocent víctims or even the guilty (who can then often get off because of police brutality, etc.)
A raid like that should only be done under extreme circumstances. There are times when it is necessary but usually there is no need.
