In Lafayette Park, just steps away from the White House, a wealthy hotelier ran a second business selling enslaved men and women to the highest bidder.
He kept them in a brick cell beside his mansion, and at night an observer recalled hearing their howls and cries.
Today in the park there is no plaque, no bench and no monument, to paraphrase Toni Morrison, to memorialize the human lives brutalized there throughout much of the 19th century. After a hard-fought Civil War, the institution of chattel slavery was legally abolished as the U.S. nominally attempted to make racial violence a thing of the past. These days, in the public space situated across from the White House, one is likely to encounter instead an odd mix of office workers on lunch break and MAGA-hat-wearing tourists mingling around the hoteliers former mansion, known as Decatur House.
Or at least, that was the scene before the past three weeks turned Lafayette Park into a crucible for the fight over the still-present legacy of slavery in America: systemic racism.
Just before 7 p.m. on June 1, a deployment of local, state and federal forces, armored head to toe in riot gear, unleashed rubber bullets and sprayed tear gas onto a crowd of peaceful demonstrators gathered in the park to protest under the mantra Black Lives Matter. Moments after the crowd was forcibly dispersed, screaming as their eyes burned from the gas, President Donald Trump strolled out of the White House flanked by senior members of his Administration, triumphantly holding up a Bible so the press could snap a few photos.

I for one refuse to accept this belief that white people are better than black people!!!! I've found that some black people I've known and worked with are horrible and some great, some are dumb and some very intelligent, and also are tough, smart, resourceful, disciplined, have high character....JUST LIKE WHITE, ASIAN, MIDDLE EASTERN, AND INDIAN SUBCONTINENT ARE!!!
I think it will eventually be an awakening over racial issues in this country just not the way Time magazine hopes

I have to repeat myself to get this opinion widely disseminated:
The black race baiters are picking on all of us so they will someday say “That’s enough. I’m fighting back.” and be labeled a racist, a bigot and a white supremacist.
Even Monsignor Charles Pope who merely said he deplores the rioting, looting and burning was a hairsbreadth away from being called a white racist by the black cohost on a Catholic discussion show Morning Glory! And he is a pillar of the DC religious community helping blacks and the poor all these years.
The term systemic racism was chosen left’s leaders behind the scenes because no one can fight against it.
It implies all the institutions , educational system, job search, promotions and career paths and the police and government are ALL in an interlinked system of systemic racism.
If you have never done anything wrong, you are still “guilty” because you must have benefited from the overall system’s faults. Thus, no one can argue against that term, they think.
Reports that claim peaceful demonstrators were tear-gassed at a Washington, D.C. park ahead of a visit Monday evening by President Donald Trump suggesting that he directed the action appear to be false. According to a Twitter thread posted by WTOP reporter Neal Augenstein, a source says tear gas was never used instead smoke canisters were deployed, which dont have an uncomfortable irritant in them. And, the source says Park Police didnt know President Trump would be walking across the park several minutes later.

Yes, they have finally found out about us whites. We are so systemically racist that we have set idly by and allowed one our of five people to immigrate here from non-white countries.
Now a white nation that was NOT systemically racist would have immigrated themselves out of existence 60years ago to prove they were not systemically racist.

This note was a promise that all men- yes black men as well as white men-would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
This will be the day when all of Gods children will be able to sing with new meaning. My country, tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.
Americans are individuals finding primary identity in pre-existing, natural, intangible liberties, and only secondarily in ethnicity, gender, class, or race. The philosophical doctrines adopted placed all on the same metaphysical plain from inception of the Republic. Standing for those principles produces a symphony of brotherhood and grants all an equal opportunity to prosper materially and spiritually.
But now Dr. King resides within monuments, while prominent, malleable constituencies condone and execute terrorism, anarchy, and riots.
