A total of 170 people died of drug overdoses in British Columbia, Canada, in May, over three times as many as died from COVID-19 that month and more than have died from the disease there over the course of the entire pandemic.
A total of 167 people have died from the coronavirus in the Canadian province since March. Overdose deaths have outstripped COVID-19 deaths every month during the pandemic.

I believe it, went to Vancouver a few years ago, beautiful city, but I’ve never seen so many strung-out bums in my life.
The virus has disrupted the supply chain for cartels and the distribution of narcotics globally with tightened border security. Drug dealers are relying more on fentanyl (from China) to make their heroin sales as the supply of Mexican heroin dwindles.
This will probably get much worse before it gets better.
While it is not considered a “pandemic” for many as it is a choice by drug users, the contrast with the coronavirus deaths provides some perspective on continued lockdowns.

IMHO, the lock down gave a pause for the world and a reflection that most people took in a positive way. It showed a bit of what humanity could do for others in a pinch, if they really cared. Most cared to protect people, specifically their elders, family, etc.... Maybe not leaders of NY or leaders elsewhere but the general people, young and old tried to protect them and take precautions. most people tried to anyway.

Taking drugs is voluntary, Covid-19 isnt.
I want to make it up to Vancouver...been to Victoria and other parts of BC and Alberta....taking the ferry from Anacortes over to Victoria is breathtaking...
