CONFEDERATE STATUE Monument's future sparking hot debate among petitioners (TN)

A number of opposing petitions have been posted online to counter one posted Monday by a Lee University student that advocated for the removal of a Confederate statue that has stood at a downtown Cleveland intersection since the Jim Crow era.

Differences in opinion regarding the statue have resulted in sharp, often bitter debate on the Cleveland Daily Banner’s Facebook page, highlighting the complicated history residents of Cleveland and other Southern cities share as they examine their pasts.

SNIP

The first Cleveland anti-statue petition, posted by Lee student Kelsey Elaine, listed several grievances against the monument, which was erected in 1910 by the Daughters of the Confederacy at the intersection of Ocoee, Broad and Eighth streets.

Her petition was posted on change.org. It has garnered more than 5,000 signatures.

Re-write history is what they want. Who needs the truth?

Feminism is just such a great cultural phenomenon. I’m so glad the elites foisted it on us all. Yes, sarcasm.

Yet another reason why college towns are a double-edged sword. An influx of outsiders who come in and try to dictate what part of the region's history is "acceptable".

Hopefully the whole wuhan-virus debacle changes the college education model to a more remote-learning model going forward. You don't need to spend $50K a year and physically be on campus for most fields of study.

This would result in fewer carpet-baggers invading more conservative areas and turning them into leftist armpits. Austin, TX comes to mind.

God forbid any American city has anything of artistic value in it. These people want to wallow in their own nihilistic ugliness

Mark Steyn pointed out today that all the statues being torn down are of statues of Democrats!

Democrats tearing down Democrat statues does have a certain delicious flavor, does it not?

Christopher Columbus was no Democrat. It is very perverse to think of Stonewall Jackson as a Democrat as he was...

1. Christian
2. Conservative
3. Brilliant
4. Brave

As I’ve said before, those of us who make Alabama a red state today are the same types who were Andrew Jackson Democrats in an earlier time when the Jacksonians opposed deficit spending and government overreach.

The reason for this short history will become clear at the end.

The Royal African Company

Chartered by Charles II in 1672 and headed by his brother the Duke of York (later James II), for more than two decades the Royal African Company held a monopoly of trade with Africa which included gold, silver and slaves

From 1680-86, the company transported an average of 5,000 slaves per year, most of which were shipped to colonies in the Caribbean and Virginia.

Thousands of slaves arrived in the New World with the company’s initials branded on their chests.

Why did I think it important to post this very short history of a company that probably few have ever heard of?

New York!

Since the Virtue Signalers are demanding that everything that is offensive to blacks be torn down or renamed .. why not start with New York

After all, New York was named after the great Trader of African Slaves ...Duke of York
(later King James II).

Dang....they sure didn’t represent any Southern values. After Clinton was done, Gore couldn’t even win his own home state! Which would have made him President!
