Outside of knowing Sowell is black I’m not sure what race any of the authors in my collection is. Unless there is a picture. Sounds like NPR is letting their inner BLM animal run wild. Something they will surely regret.

Or perhaps Uncle Tom’s Cabin, To Kill a Mockingbird, Cry the Beloved Country, Laughing Boy, Black Like Me, and pretty much anything by Carlos Castaneda or Isabella Allende. And why stop with the library? What about music? No more Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven or, for that matter, the vast majority of folk, country, rock, new age, and non- blues jazz. If you are not listening exclusively to blues artists, you are “part of the problem.” And finally, news media, which are dominated by white people and are therefore “colonial”. Turn off CNN, MSNBC and NPR and watch only BET and Univision.

About Masterpiece Theatre, the BBC has already said it will be promoting diversity by shoehorning women and BAME (black, Asian - that is, Moslems - minority ethnic) actors into their adaptations of classic novels. A recent Dickens show featured an “Asian” actor in the famous title role of an Englishman.

a librarian i know was toeing the ala party line and advocating removing little house on the Prairie series and other children’s books because of their racial or lack of feminist content.

These people are serious. They want to remake the world into their twisted image.

And you fund them with your tax dollars.teacher salaries. Retirement bennies and the like.

Instead of canceling the culture developed by Western civilization over the last three thousand years, let’s cancel certain aspects of the culture developed by the American urban poor over the last 65 years, I.e. out of wedlock teenage births, fatherless families, illiteracy, a disrespect for education, drug usage and victimhood.

Please. There’s nothing whiter than arts and poetry. That’s one of the reasons the rioters destroyed the Santa Monica Music Center, for example; they were clearly being oppressed by dead white male music.

I haven’t quite figured out how NPR is going to handle their listenership, however, because there’s probably no whiter and wealthier demographic in the country.

NPR suggests that “decolonizing your bookshelf” is about “about actively resisting and casting aside the colonialist ideas of narrative, storytelling, and literature that have pervaded the American psyche for so long.”

If you are white, take a moment to examine your bookshelf. What do you see? What books and authors have you allowed to influence your worldview, and how you process the issues of racism and prejudice toward the disenfranchised? Have you considered that, if you identify as white and read only the work of white authors, you are in some ways listening to an extension of your own voice on repeat? While the details and depth of experience may differ, white voices have dominated what has been considered canon for eons.
