Theres a 6-mile long commercial corridor in South Minneapolis called Lake Street, and it has been destroyed.
We no longer have pharmacies in our community, said ZoeAna Martinez, who works for the Lake Street Council, a business association. We no longer have gas stations as well. Our largest grocery stores are also gone, Martinez said. Right now, our community, we live in a food desert, which happened overnight.
In Minneapolis and Saint Paul, hundreds of businesses have been damaged or burned to the ground. The same has happened in cities around the country.
Pretty much half of a city block completely burned down Sunday night, said Bea Rider, interim executive director of the New Kensington Community Development Corp., a neighborhood group in Philadelphia. Pharmacies, bodegas, clothing stores, check-cashing spots all gone. And these losses hurt certain groups more than others.
Low-income families who are underbanked, so they rely on check-cashing businesses, theyre definitely feeling a pinch, Rider said.
Also, people who dont have cars to drive to an intact store in the suburbs. And seniors who may have trouble getting around and who are more likely to need prescriptions filled.
This is all in the background as the pandemic is still very much with us, and some businesses had curtailed certain degrees of operation because of that, said Tabitha Montgomery, executive director of the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association in Minneapolis.
Community groups and churches are trying to fill the gap with donated supplies, but thats a short-term fix. And Montgomery said she thinks the neighborhood will bear the scars of this moment for decades, even after the stores are rebuilt.

There are parts of the Bay Area like this.
Just destroyed.
I drive 48 miles to my office and I am literally driving through a war zone.
Arson? Antifa? Electrical?
Odd.
I read one of the MST3K guys is all woke now on Twitter.
No shock there.
From experience, the people doing the torching (those that aren’t Antifa doing it for political reasons, or looters trying to cover their tracks) actually expect the store to be rebuilt the next day (either literally or practically) and are stunned when the store never returns. No kidding. There were people in LA complaining about the stores they’d burned down not being open after the 1992 Riots. Some of these people were recorded as still complaining and not understanding why the stores didn’t come back when they were interviewed in 2017 for the 25th anniversary.
Welcome to your hell you created for yourself
Thats because its an IQ desert.
LOL, you win the Internet for the day.
MST3K = Mystic?
Is that a Rap Group?
I’m a little out of the loop on current ‘culture’.
I have heard of that movie Mystic Pizza with the lovely
& talented Julia Roberts, but that too is ancient Hollywood history.
1988.
I got The Warm Fuzzies now...
The question of who burned these buildings down is of great public importance. An enterprising, public-spirited reporter could easily do some shoe-leather work to answer it, thus really serving the people of the area.
Maybe someday reporters like that will come in from some other dimension and do that work.
People who vote-in LIB/Leftist/DIMs and those who support uncivil behavior (rioting, assault, drugs and so forth) deserve what they get. Tough luck. Enjoy the years of suck!!!
Mystery Science Theater 3000....... I have the T shirt. Alas it is old and somehow became smaller.
It is still available on the Pluto streaming service
The star is one of ours..... Tom Servo
Oh! The science theater.
So whatever they have to say must be ‘settled science’!
Sorta like Bill Nye, the science guy.
Terrorism usually isn't covered. Having ANTIFA designated a domestic terrorist group, won't help the insured.
You sit in a theater behind Joel Robinson and robots Tom Servo and Crow T Robot and and watch extremely cheesy B movies and listen to their snarky comments all the way through.
To my best knowledge MST3K preceeds Free Republic and joel is no relation to Jim
“Whats going to happen is you,ll have government programs to ship these people out into the suburbs and relocate them and have cheaper housing so they have access to everything that they burned down.”

Realtors can easily have hidden motives.
Dishonest, capricious, and just plain vile realtors.
Long term, if enough of the area is cleared out from the old location they Gentrification will start to take place.
It’s then, that the realtors I afore mentioned will start raking in the monies. Another group of folks (most likely all democrats) making monies off of Antifa and BLM’s activities.
Oh..THAT one! I used to see those once in a while. It was fun.
I had a friend who watched that and another show called
Adult Swim, a rather strange cartoon/ social commentary show.
I’ve been thinking along the same lines, but I’m cynical enough to imagine these neighborhoods gentrified by the same antifa kids rioting today, in ten years, maybe not even self-aware enough to notice they’re profiteering from their exciting youthful activism.
This was the plan - destroy all hope in urban areas. They lost their jobs. They lost their stores. Those who had started businesses lost their investments. It’s a big win for the party of dependence on government . . . or so democrats hoped.
Why is it that black Americans are responding to democrat arson and looting of their neighborhoods unexpectedly - by supporting President Trump (40% support according to https://twitter.com/Rasmussen_Poll/status/1268919228855451654 Rasmussen today!)?
Democrats destroying the lives of other Democrats, Maybe the newly destroyed should try getting off the porch and leaving the Plantation.
