The vigilantes arming against Antifa: Residents carrying AR-15s and wearing bullet proof vests take to the streets 'to defend' neighborhoods and businesses

Residents armed with AR-15s and wearing bullet proof vests are taking matters into their own hands across America, coming out in force to defend businesses and stop widespread vandalism by looters. Heavily armed vigilantes wielding everything from bats to rifles have started appearing at protests in places including Philadelphia, Idaho, California and Chicago, threatening to take action if things turn violent in the absence of law enforcement. In Minneapolis, neighborhood watch groups are springing up - in support of protests over George Floyd's death but in defense of businesses and homes being destroyed by looters as night falls. In many cases, the vigilantes want peace and are focused on protecting local residents and businesses from looters.

I object to the use of the term "vigilantes". Citizens have the right to protect their lives and treasure when the government is unable or unwilling to do their duty.

The comments are universally in agreement with citizens protecting themselves.

If they were truly vigilantes, the bodies would already be piling up.

The fact that those rifles are so far silent proves it’s a lie.

Interesting how they to defend in quote marks, implying that it's just a ruse...

The following from David Kopel’s “The Samurai, The Mountie, and The Cowboy” in the chapter titlted “Civilization and Savagery: America’s Half Remembered Past” (shared on another thread):

“...the real historical meaning of vigilantism had nothing to do with individual self-defense against crime. Vigilantism meant organized, community effort to rid a locality of lawbreakers”.

The problem is that in the US we shouldn’t have had to return to a pre-civilizational situation where the law and law enforcement Are incapable of protecting us and maintaining an orderly society.

But it began with the hollowing out of the courts: for example, when law enforcement manages to bring in these looters and rioters, the courts release them immediately. The whole system has become a joke, so now we are left to standing in front of our homes with whatever we can get our hands on to protect ourselves.

It’s not even Wild West times, because then you knew that if the sheriff got there, he’d be on your side...now I bet these defenders will be prosecuted and lynched if they touch a hair on the head of these precious rioters.

Everything is crazy.

The “vigilante” shakes hands with the “protester.” But the “protester” still votes Democrat. Once the Democrats are in power, they will take the gun from the “vigilante,” from his cold dead hands if (I hope) necessary. And once the vigilante is not on the street with his gun protecting the businesses, the protester will have nothing to protest but a burnt out hollowed shell of a building. But in actually the protester won’t be protesting any more, he will be doing the burning.

The scorpion and the frog.

Here's one who doesn't:

"Lightfoot condemns vigilantism after group wielding makeshift weapons takes to the streets of Bridgeport: ‘It was literally causing fear’ On Thursday, Lightfoot told reporters that it’s “absolutely not appropriate for people to take up arms, bats, pipes, whatever in patrolling neighborhoods.”

The usual scum democrat politician.

FraudCo’s op for the Iranians to capture our boats comes to mind.

I’d like to see them cashiered out of the force NOW.

They fill the vacuum left by failed government. Somebody has to do it. They are the good guys.

"A vigilance committee was a group formed of private citizens to administer law and order where they considered governmental structures to be inadequate. The term is commonly associated with the frontier areas of the American West in the mid-19th century, where groups attacked cattle rustlers and gangs, and people at gold mining claims. As non-state organizations no functioning checks existed to protect against excessive force or safeguard due process from the committees. In the years prior to the Civil War, some committees worked to free slaves and transport them to freedom."

Vigilantes exist where a corrupt government refuses to enforce law and keep order.

I saw this yesterday, it’s a terrible article that is completely devoid of any understanding of what our rights our. It’s a typical ‘guns bad’ British attitude. The numerous references to ‘vigilantes’ is absurd. What revenge was being taken? What due process was being suppressed? There’s no ‘vigilantism’ going on here...it’s just a term used to smear the right.

The narrative by the media has gone into insanity land.
