PARIS Tear gas choked Paris streets as riot police faced off with protesters setting fires Tuesday amid growing global outrage over George Floyds death in the United States, racial injustice and heavy-handed police tactics around the world.
French protesters took a knee and raised their fists while firefighters struggled to extinguish multiple blazes as a largely peaceful, multiracial demonstration degenerated into scattered tensions. Several thousand people defied a virus-related ban on protests to pay homage to Floyd and Adama Traore, a French black man who died in police custody.
Electric scooters and construction barriers went up in flames, and smoke stained a sign reading Restaurant Open on the first day French cafes were allowed to open after nearly three months of virus lockdown.
Chanting I cant breathe, thousands marched peacefully through Australias largest city, while thousands more demonstrated in the Dutch capital of The Hague and hundreds rallied in Tel Aviv. Expressions of anger erupted in multiple languages on social networks, with thousands of Swedes joining an online protest and others speaking out under the banner of #BlackOutTuesday.
Diplomatic ire percolated too, with the European Unions top foreign policy official saying the bloc was shocked and appalled by Floyds death.
Floyd died last week after a police officer pressed his knee into his neck for several minutes even after he stopped moving and pleading for air. The death set off protests that spread across America and now, beyond.

“Are you going to the protest?”
“What protest?”
“George Floyd”
“Pink Floyd?”
“No, George Floyd”.
“Who’s he? Sure. What the heck”
I cannot imagine why Parisians give a $h!t about George Floyd or anybody else an ocean away. If the French police stomped an innocent person to death, I can’t say I’d give a f***.
France has their own George Floyd. His name is Adama Traore, a French black man who died in police custody.
The cop with his knee on George Floyd was fired almost immediately and charged with murder a day or two later. This is not about George Floyd; it's just an excuse to riot.
If he’d been white, his story would have gone down the drain right after the local evening news never to be remembered again. But, noooo, it’s gone global because of pigmentation alone.
There are a ton of upper-middle class kids that want to afix to a politically correct cause. They dont care what it is - just so they can protest - and go out afterwards to bars (or private homes in this time) to brag/celebrate.
A co-workers kid was failing her 2B term at the university of washington before it closed down. He was going to have get a job to save up for her 3rd year (instead of paying everything for her).
Now she is all about public good and protests and her mom will not allow her to be every be partially cut off.
Oh well - sucks to be my cowokrer in this situation
Zoot Allures.
Liberal fascists in Paris use a police brutality case in the US as an excuse to riot. Just like those here.
The cop with his knee on George Floyd was fired almost immediately and charged with murder a day or two later.
Actually he was charged with manslaughter. And what about the other 3 cops who did nothing to stop him killing George Floyd and told the onlookers to disperse? Anyone know if they are being held accountable too?
The first cop was originally charged with 3rd degree murder. That has been upgraded to 2nd degree and the other 3 cops have been charged with accessory to 2nd degree murder.
Seems our (spoiled) younger generation wants destruction to happen, for whatever reason works.
Seems like we need a terrible war, that kills many loved ones, every so often, to get this blood lust out of our system for a few decades.
