I think the clear difference is that FR does not pretend to be an open unbiased platform.

And free Republic clearly states it’s conservative bias, but welcomes all speech including liberal speech so we can convince them to get their heads out of their asses.

FR is a user of Facebook, Twitter, Google which are public service providers. This is the difference between a conference call of users and the telephone company service provider.
