Social media distancing?

Imposing those restrictions would clearly be a taking by government because it would destroy their businesses.

Does requiring restaurants and hotels to serve black people destroy their business?

Tell me how this theory works in your mind? How are their businesses getting destroyed from simply being required to serve everyone equally?

The Red China influence angle is the most promising. National security trumps many other considerations. Would FDR allow Goebbels to “fact-check” his fireside chats? I think not.

[...what authority does he have to issue an Executive Order to a private business?”

The answer is Trump has no authority to dictate to a business. What Trump DOES have authority over is the law enforcement apparatus; so if you want to conduct yourself as a ‘Platform’, you will be treated one way, if you begin to act like a ‘Publisher’, the laws are applied and enforced differently.

Trump will direct he law enforcement activities as it relates to the legal protections Twitter and Facebook have heretofore enjoyed, but have put in jeopardy.

Facebook and Twitter will now enjoy legal exposure for their actions.

I hope you do get it. Because at the very core of this issue is freedom of speech. A basic fundamental constitutional right. And for anyone to infringe on that right? They must be stopped.

Going out of business by losing conservative customers will stop them.

Yep. They want the right dead. Time to admit that and act accordingly. And only out-of-touch old fools fail to recognize the power that Twitter, Twitch, etc. have on the world. Big, leftist tech is an enemy.

Then why is it ok for FR to ban a liberal? Private company rights, that’s why. Same for Twitter.

Verizon has been a disaster since late April for us.

Lots of big cities are having trouble. They are going downhill fast.

Not the way they are.

What they are doing is noo different than the Trusts of the early 20th century.

Let’s stop playing dumb here.

Compete in the free market like Gab? What happened there? Please due explain how “deplatformed” competitors to twitter can compete with them.

Btw, only old farts “use the internet”. Kids live on their phones now and the Stalinists are in firm control of our phones now via the app model. Cheer on their tyranny if you wish. I won’t be.

what authority does he have to issue an Executive Order..

Isn’t the FCC part of the executive branch?

Maybe require the FCC to come down hard on them.

The FCC has no jurisdiction over cable TV or over the internet, only over broadcast TV and radio.

No, the Ds just send SS and goons to harass members. Unless you had another ID you weren’t around for those days.

Apparently many on here would be ok if the next D shuts down FR via EO since he doesn’t like the negative exposure.

Apparently, a few on here are willing it sit in their armchairs and wax philosophical while Democrats drive a steamroller over us and 250 years of our American heritage.

Make no mistake: the Dems are spoiling for political warfare. We have two choices: be doormats or fight fire with return fire. We elected Trump and now he’s fighting. Support him.

Just hope this is a big fat lie.

The Federal Government cannot tell private business including social media what to do.

Does anyone care about constitutional limitations on the federal government? I don’t care if it’s Trump or the Man in the Moon.

I can’t believe FReepers are responding to how great this would be.

Twitter is much more than a private company. They are a public utility. An e-utility.

Like your cell phone company. Like your electric company. And as such, they must be regulated and held accountable for their unconstitutional abuses.

Like Mariner said, censorship is a 2-way street. When the next D gets in power we’ll see how you like it when they throw around EO’s to ban FR or whatever they thing is bad.

“unless he invokes some clause in the Emergency Declaration.”

And that’s the way to do it!

Homeland Security under Obama declared the election systems to be critical infrastructure. I’m guessing that Trump will do the same for social media platforms.

They should at least be compelled to give federal agencies full access to their “black box”. Right now nobody knows how many conservatives are being silenced on a daily basis. We also don’t know what action they are taking against Chinese propaganda, etc.

These things can sway the election and we shouldn’t trust them to make the right decisions without oversight and accountability.

I’m not all that surprised at all. Disappointed that there’s a complete brownshirt wing that’s damned as hell for an EO to work against a private company. Hell, they’d probably execute all the top Twitter/FB management. They’re the Robespierre’s of today.
