“FaceBook is a required medium for access to many sites. So is Linked In.”

The ONLY things FB and LI control access to is their own content.

They ALLOW some to publish on FB. Bound by their contractual TOS.

They can assign DU their fact-checker. It doesn’t matter, it’s a private company.

“Twitter is practically a public utility. “

Nonsense.

The antitrust laws do not allow regulation of speech.

They do allow suing to split up monopolies. There are other social media platforms, so the monopoly argument is uphill.

I don’t see how it can be constitutional.

Its so blatantly unconstitutional that it must be fake news. Why? Because the POTUS may only use executive orders to dictate the policies, practices, and procedures for executive departments. Facebook, Twitter, etc., are not part of the executive department, and not even a branch of government. End of story.

The government did not have to buy Verizon and ATT to make it illegal for them to prevent me from placing a call to the Trump for President campaign.

They entered into the telecom business knowing they were common carriers and were regulated. They built their business models around that.

The socials didn't and removing their ability to moderate content would destroy their business model - which is providing a good platform for advertising.

That's a pretty classic taking.

If Trump shuts down an internet platform under emergency powers invoked as a result of the ‘rona, he’s jumped the shark and ensures his defeat in November.

So he will not be so stupid, much as you’d like him to.

The last time I checked, the taxpayers don't own ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc......

They built their businesses knowing they were common carriers.

If we forced that on the socials we would be destroying billions in shareholder value.

Or by executive order. Congress has to override that with a 2/3 vote.

This is pure, unexalted nonsense. Such monumental Constitutional ignorance on this site is disconcerting.

They-the anti american commies, took these forums and abused their privileges destroying them.

"Took" isn't right. I think the word you're looking for is built.

What Huck wants is for the federal government to take the companies away from all the private citizens who own them.

We have to redefine terms to reflect the modern world. People use twitter as a source of communication, like telecom utilities.

At best you could say they are like allowing op-eds in newspapers of old. To say they are subject to EO’s to shut them down isn’t just anti-conservative, it’s anti-American at its worse.

Agree, but then their actions should be counted as payment in kind for democratic campaigns. They are no different than a PAC and should be treated as such.

I’m not saying that at all. I’m working out how some regulation could be implemented. Also not saying that I agree that it should be done. It would be very politically dangerous to do so. Now, Google... Google needs to be watched carefully. I’m not going to waste time going into their games. If don’t know, you won’t agree no matter what I say. If you know, you don’t have to be convinced.

Sure it is, but it’s one of those ‘I may not agree with what you say but I’ll die for your right to say it’.

OK so how do you keep them from deciding who says what? I don’t want to be censored. Phone co does not censor what I say. What’s the answer.
