What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
“What could POSSIBLY go wrong? “
Seven years working in a grocery store A lifetime of observation and tell me that “needy” people buy mostly expensive and less nutritious processed food. If they can’t have it ready in one and a half minutes they don’t want it. The local Y could not give away the gorgeous produce from their Michelle Obama garden.
This is a waste of time, money and food.

TANF recipients (successor to Food Stamps) should be required to pass a basic Home Economic class within 90 days of receipt of benefits. And maybe an advanced class in the 2nd 90 days.

In my opinion, the poor nutritional and expensive eating habits of the “needy” are not so much related to ignorance as it is to lack of motivation. As my mother pointed out when I asked if we were poor because we seldom ate meat and seemed to subsist on potatoes, (approximately) “We are not poor because I spend our last dollar buying potatoes. Poor is when you spend your last dollar on beer and cigarettes’. Poor is an attitude, it’s a way of seeing life.”
Believe you mean SNAP, short for Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program. TAMF is a different welfare program, not directly connected to food.
We are not poor because I spend our last dollar buying potatoes. Poor is when you spend your last dollar on beer and cigarettes. Poor is an attitude, its a way of seeing life.
Exactly.
Yes definitely send more money to farmers who are pouring out milk, destroying farm products because its better than feeding needy people.
the USDA Food Box to Families program is an absolute money bonanza to food distributors. I know a guy who runs a distribution warehouse, and hes getting paid $50/box to put a bunch of vegetables, whose cost is about $3, in box, and take it to the local food bank.
Youre probably right. Either way, though. Both programs should require it.
I always ask those students who I see developing a simplistic, SJW attitude and silly leftist slogans - Is the Dalai Lama poor? Their answer: ummm. NO. I tell them - but he only owns his robe and his glasses. Doesnt even own a TV. He must be very poor.
Then were in a position to discuss.
no argument from me on that issue.
It’ll be a Gravy Train for the few and won’t ‘solve’ any problem.
Same as it ever was...
It’s happening in Oregon through the Catholic Church — 90,000 boxes of food.
Keep us posted as you watch it unfold. :) I’d be more than happy to see this work, but I’m amazed at some of the companies that are getting all those taxpayer dollars.
Yet the hype is about "food insecurity," a misleading term as shown by my post long ago. Food hunger in America: More Hype than Reality. Why?
Excellent.
I live ‘Rural’ and at most, we’d borrow from neighbors, or they would just show up to fill the freezer with food if we fell upon hard times.
I’m glad to hear of some successes for City Folk! :)
Thanks and glory be to God, and let me add that there are pages upon pages listing free food distributions in our area, plus rent subsidies are available besides food stamps and other federal and state welfare distributions, besides while politicians make it seem like people are starving and barely making it, which is rare. Some low-income elderly who have no kids out of marriage living at home seem to have it the hardest.
