Horowitz: The CDC confirms remarkably low coronavirus death rate. Where is the media?
conservative review ^ | ยท May 22, 2020 | Daniel Horowitz

Most people are more likely to wind up six feet under because of almost anything else under the sun other than COVID-19.

The CDC just came out with a report that should be earth-shattering to the narrative of the political class, yet it will go into the thick pile of vital data and information about the virus that is not getting out to the public. For the first time, the CDC has attempted to offer a real estimate of the overall death rate for COVID-19, and under its most likely scenario, the number is 0.26%. Officials estimate a 0.4% fatality rate among those who are symptomatic and project a 35% rate of asymptomatic cases among those infected, which drops the overall infection fatality rate (IFR) to just 0.26% — almost exactly where Stanford researchers pegged it a month ago.

Until now, we have been ridiculed for thinking the death rate was that low, as opposed to the 3.4% estimate of the World Health Organization, which helped drive the panic and the lockdowns. Now the CDC is agreeing to the lower rate in plain ink.

Plus, ultimately we might find out that the IFR is even lower because numerous studies and hard counts of confined populations have shown a much higher percentage of asymptomatic cases. Simply adjusting for a 50% asymptomatic rate would drop their fatality rate to 0.2% – exactly the rate of fatality Dr. John Ionnidis of Stanford University projected.

Do you have a link to that notion

Man data is so incredibly screwed today

Political rules science today

And when did they all become leftists

Scientists weren’t lefties in my youth

They were nerdy

It can be whatever the UNACCOUNTABLE BUREAUCRATS want it to be at any time.

the actual boots on the ground Covid-19 situation.

Like you know anything at all about that. Give us a break!

The actual boots on the ground situation, is that only 4.2% of the US population has now been tested for coronavirus. Unless they were a celebrity, a politician or a health care or public safety person, the vast majority who had symptoms and many who were even in high risk groups were not able to be tested during the window of time when they would have had a positive result. People who have died from gunshots, stabbings, cancer, heart disease, the flu and every other illness and injury under the sun have been included to inflate the “death count”. The actual number of deaths even from these highly inflated numbers is less than 100,000 out of a total population of 350 million, yet every single day you compare it here to the actual pandemic of 2018 - 2019 which killed 675,000 people out of a population of 103 million.

My wife and I live in a hotspot. She is a retired career nurse and department head, I am a retired HAZMAT officer. We both volunteered for the first nursing care facility which had deaths. We personally know health-care people like us who have tested positive. We are very familiar with the “boots on the ground “ situation. All indications from your posts here indicate that you are not.

Your opinion repeated incessantly in thread after thread that the lock downs were valuable and should be continued is not following “the science”. Your continued demeaning remarks directed at anyone who disagrees is not only distasteful but echos the propaganda we get from Democrats and the MSM hour after hour everyday. Far from showing that you are a “scientist”,they reveal your true character as a fearful, petty, self-righteous, virtue signalling, pompous drone that believes everything that those who want to destroy our Republic tell her to believe.

To clarify and not be misunderstood, we both volunteered and were paid for work we did at the Lifecare Center in Kirkland for years before it was struck by the coronavirus... We had no opportunity to assist after the virus struck, but would have gladly if we had been asked.

It was about the only source of real news ... as it happens I had an earlier account from when it switched from The Whitewater Chronicles to FreeRepublic but had to register due to some sort of glitch.

More strident name-calling and such now but still the best ‘aggregator’ and a lot of solid commentary.

Enjoy the Memorial Holiday!

[Unlike you, I actually read (and understand) the pertinent information, scientific papers, case data, etc. Just like I did when I did this kind of work for a living.]

I don’t think it’s that difficult to understand. But some effort is required. Where numbers are concerned, report writers can use English words that have meanings quite distinct from their normal everyday usage. Unless laymen make an effort to understand the jargon, the specific meanings in the context of the report can go over their heads. And if you’re not in the profession or intellectually curious, it’s hard to see someone going the extra mile.

And if you’re not in the profession or intellectually curious, it’s hard to see someone going the extra mile.

I make an effort to put everything in clear English. But sometimes, I fail in that regard because a word or term I am using that I think is perfectly clear means something very different to my reader. It isn't always easy to determine what is the problem when that happens. Still, I do my best to communicate in everyday language.

Dealing with numbers has its own challenges. I look at the numbers, and to me, they tell a compelling story and give insight into what is really going on with the pandemic. But so many people do not understand numbers. I do get frustrated when, for example, I show the current case and death numbers along with the death rate calculation, and there are conspiracists who tell me I'm wrong about the death rate--HELLO! It's right there in the case data! Anyone can calculate it!

I have not posted enough about the trends that I am seeing.

I think Pres.Trump knew it too and got politik’d into his actions. The 1918 pandemic had 650k deaths in the US.

No way was there going to be 2 million deaths here from this thing.
