President Donald Trump spoke briefly at the White House Friday and called for state governors to allow for churches and other places of worship to reopen to the public.

Trump says he considers houses of worship “essential” and wants them to reopen this weekend.

Right question is, does any governor/mayor have the constitutional authority to deny the freedom of religion, close churches, arrest peope, jail them and fine them just for going to church, exactly like Lenin and Stalin did? Nope.

Exactly.

If there is a controlling legal authority, it's the Supreme Court that incorporated the 1st amendment to the states.

President Trump can rightly say that it's the Supreme Court that says the governors can't take away the peoples' right to gather to worship, not the President. As President, he will see that the Supreme Court's ruling on incorporation is enforced at the state level.

The damage is done. I know my congregation will be "too afraid" to end the lockdown.

They are worried about liability.

Some church leaders in zoom meetings are saying they can't even think about planning activities or re-opening until Fall.

Committees are discussing buying masks and re-organizing worship services to meet all NJ Governors demands.

First shot across the bow that it's time to wrap up the nazi governor show. It's gone on far enough.

“concur, never seen any American President like him.”

Truly, in my entire lifetime, I haven’t seen anyone as outright bold as Donald J Trump. He sees a mountain obstacle in front of him. If there are no ways around it, he just blasts his way through, political correctness be damned. It’s been amazing to watch. We definitely need at least 4 more years of him.

That's an excellent summary of today's press conference.

You’re right about Birx’s detailed graphical data in the first half of her talk. She actually explained the different types and purposes of testing. She does continue to think the press can follow her on these explanations, and that they care to. Big mistake.

There should have been a executive summary slide up front to stomp on the false narrative of “Testing Testing Oh My Word, not enough testing! We’re all gonna die. Trump is doing a horrible job on testing.”

She thinks she’s presenting to the experts at CDC.

Not well done. It’s nice to be all detailed and sciency and stuff, but the press don’t care.

Too bad she had to wind up and linger on two graphs about hot spots. I guarantee you the memes and soundbites from the enemedia will come from those last two graphs

He said churches and Houses of Worship are ESSENTIAL. Period. He was forceful.

God bless our President.

I think they turn her loose on the press on purpose to torture them, because you’re right, they don’t get it.

Think of it....they all get sucked-in for a Trump press conference, and the opportunity to fire their gotcha questions at Bad Orange Man!

Instead he makes a stunning announcement and walks out of the room. Then they’re forced to sit there and watch the slideshow for 45 minutes.

It was a thing of beauty I tell you.

You have to laugh at the idiots who say he can’t overide the governors. Uh yes he can, he can’t sue them for violating the Constitution

I actually don’t think he’ll have to do anything.

After getting some gotchas fired at her during her part of the presser Kaliegh said “Gee, it sure is interesting to be in a room with a bunch of people who want to keep churches shut down!”

No Governor wants to be in court defending that position. Not one of them.

That’s where I think the Birx part of the presser was significant. They are using new statistics to pull the rug out from under their justification to keep doing this.

I kind of agree with you now that you mention it that way.
The ol’ switcheroo.

Yeah even with a stunning Exec Summary they will ignore it. Good thinking, thanks!

It’s not unlike the stuff the nuns in grade school used to do to all of us if one kid misbehaved.

"On Holy Thursday, an American mayor criminalized the communal celebration of Easter. That sentence is one that this Court never expected to see outside the pages of a dystopian novel, or perhaps the pages of The Onion.

But two days ago, citing the need for social distancing during the current pandemic, Louisville's Mayor Greg Fischer ordered Christians not to attend Sunday services, even if they remained in their cars to worship — and even though it's Easter.

"The Mayor's decision is stunning. And it is, 'beyond all reason,' unconstitutional." -- Judge Justin "Res Judicata" Walker, United States District Judge of the Western District of Kentucky and Pres. Trump's nominee to be a United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Here is the full text of Judge Walker's TRO against Mayor Bike Lane. [PDF]
