“Reorientation can require a generation or two of ruthless coercion and brainwashing.”
Yes. We would need to infest their K-12 schools and universities and media, and indoctrinate their children over decades, until there are enough of them grown up to choose our way.
When one country (Afghanistan) has no shortage of replacement killers from another (Pakistan) it’s an incremental waiting game they are winning.
Thats a lawyer term. Its a difference without distinction to soldier or to their families. Or to the US budget
The point is that there are places in the world where military actions will be carried on without end because the insurgence never stops.
I can’t speak to all the “wars” he mentions, but I can say something about Korea - I was there. There were two enemies there - North Korea and China. The US and South Korean forces could have driven them off the peninsula. There is no question about it. However, we were there as a UN force and they called the political shots. The UN ordered the 38th Parallel be maintained. It had been set as the dividing line after WWII when the winners divided up the world. Russia insisted on having half of Korea as communist. General MacArthur wanted to drive to the Yalu River. They removed him quickly. If we can’t fight to win then we should not fight.
Only way to "win" is to go roman on them. Kill all the men and sell the women and children into slavery. Then salt the ground so nothing grows there again.
Otherwise, just accept that they are foreigners with foreign ideals. The Romans ended up doing that with the Germanic tribes.
The rank on the uniform is worn (subdued) in the center of the chest. You can see the three star general to the President’s left in the front row at the right of the photo. In as much as people are generally only saluted outdoors, the rank is also worn prominently on the front and center of the cap.
Amen.... simultaneous obliteration of ten or twelve Friday service Taliban mosques would be winning. Anyone there is deemed an enemy guilty by association
Buchanan surrenders again: if we just leave them alone they will not go beyond exterminating Israel and all Jews. They would never attack the US or the West is we allowed them to fulfill their dream of one world under Islam ...
The centers of Islamic radicalism are Saudi Arabia and Iran. Imagine fighting World War II while you couldn’t attack Germany or any German troops and, even worse, insisted that Japan was a friend even after Pearl Harbor and the Bataan Death March.
The war in Afghanistan serves the interests of the United States by __________________. And go!
It doesn’t. We went there to get bin Laden and to punish those who housed him. He’s not there, and the people doing the fighting were not even born or where in diapers when 9/11 happened. It makes no sense on the terms they sold it to us.
Meanwhile, when it comes to “fighting terrorism” the one thing that is simply not possible to try is the one where THEY DON’T GET TO COME HERE. You know, the one that the American people (as if their opinion matters) overwhelmingly support. That would serve the interests of the United States of America, so that’s off the table.
Not Loosing!
islame is irrational and incompatible with American values and is never going to stop trying to destroy us. We will always have to defend ourselves from them.
In WW2, we won because we demonstrated our willingness to exterminate entire populations, if that's what it took. They surrendered because they believed us.
In Germany, they may not have thought that we would exterminate us, but they could be sure that Stalin would -- he had already demonstrated his willingness to commit genocide in the Holodomor.
In Japan, it took firebombing their cities and two nukes before we convinced them that we were prepared to go all the way, if they forced us.
Dresden also sent a message.
Amen. And with today's "politically corrected by Obama" military leadership, I'm not sure we can provide much more than a few guys in camouflage with scary black guns to direct traffic in the capital city. Actually defeating a nation as small as Liberia seems like a monumental challenge when your generals' primary concern is how bad CNN's camera operators are making them look.
