The same State Department watchdog fired Friday by President Trump was the target of an earlier accusation that he engaged in partisan politics from Hillary Clinton when she was running for president in 2016.
The former secretary of states campaign in 2016 attacked ex-inspector general Steve Linick for criticizing her use of a private email server and allegedly leaking negative stories about her to the press.

I remember when Matt Lauer asked the questions out of sequence at a debate so Hillary Clinton's answers were off-kilter. Luckily for Clinton the answers were so vague it was hard to tell anything was wrong.
But she was furious and screamed backstage that Matt Lauer would be fired! And I thought "Can she really take down a media star like that?" Next thing you know, Lauer was gone.

They beat up on a guy publicly as a way of softening them up to then have to prove their loyalty. Same thing with Comey.

The last permanent IG in the post before Linick was a guy appointed by George W. Bush. He left just before Obama was inaugurated, and Obama never nominated anyone during all of Hillary's term as Secretary of State. Linick took office in September of 2013, several months after Kerry took over. All the time she was Secretary, her and Obama could run the State Department from her bathroom server in Chappaqua, and had no IG to keep track of what they were doing with department money. That situation should be investigated, but it never will.
I'm not a constituent of Chuck Grassley's, but I called his office today, and asked why nobody was upset that Obama left the State's IG post vacant from January 2008 until September 2013, and what were Hillary and Obama doing that they didn't want a watch dog snooping around.

Wait, wut? No IG?
Was this the same period when $6 billion mysteriously disappeared from the State Department’s coffers?

Thanks.
But that link says there *was* an IG. So I’m confused.

There was an acting IG, not a permanent one. This is the guy who was doing both his job, and serving as Deputy IG:
Harold W. Geisel
Obama nominated Steve Linick in late 2013 to take over the post of permanent I.G.
CNN interviewed Geisel yesterday:
"There are questions of whether Akard will continue the investigations started under his predecessors tenure. Harold Geisel, the former acting State Department Inspector General from 2008-2013, told CNN that the answer is not necessarily, but usually. If an investigation was closed suddenly it would be unusual and probably noted in the internal audits which the IGs give one another. So it can be done. But it would be most usual to continue the process until there are findings.
Then I found this about him from June 16, 2015 on a search:
Official sued to keep Clinton State documents secret
I wonder how much his take was from that missing $6 Billion.
