A Times spokesperson said in a statement to The Hill that McNeil "went too far in expressing his personal views" during the interview.I am glad they caught that. I don't want personal views creeping into things. That's why I only read the New York Times. It is completely free of personal opinion and bias.

As I recall the CDC at the beginning of the year was an antiquated institution where all testing had to be one by one lab - CDC’s. Their stockpile of needed equipment was depleted and had been for a long time and staffed by scientists interested in name enhancing projects, not national.
The entire operation had to be re-invented after the pandemic was recognized. It is quite remarkable. And the major thanks goes to POTUS for ordering it to happen and removing restricting regulations so as to fast-track the changes.
