This is close to what I call Assumed Competence/Excellence.
People will assume that because a person is competent/excellent in one area that they will automatically be competent/excellent in another area or in everything.

I trust Fauci about as far as I can throw a Buick!

One of the finest compliments I ever received was when a colleague—himself multitalented—introduced me to a group as “a true Renaissance man”.
Better to know a little about a lot than a lot about a little.

It may well be that the modern cult of experts, aka “learned Ignoramus’” gave rise to that particular humor we enjoy so much: How many “learned ignoramus’” does it take to change a light bulb?”

I know that Gasset's book is important, but the real point was actually expressed by Socrates over 2,000 years ago:
Socrates introduces the foundational principle of human society: the principle of specialization. The principle of specialization states that each person must perform the role for which he is naturally best suited and that he must not meddle in any other business. The carpenter must only build things, the farmer must only farm. Behind this principle is the notion that human beings have natural inclinations that should be fulfilled. Specialization demands not only the division of labor, but the most appropriate such division. Only in this way, Socrates is convinced, can everything be done at the highest level possible.

Im not writing about Rainman levels of Disability.
An Idiot Savant functions at the idiot level most of the time.
Im writing about people such as entertainers who believe they also have excellence in administration or foreign affairs.

People used to talk about the Peter Principle.
Another name for 'peter' is 'dick' which seems more appropriate for Fauci.
To: spirited irish
This assumes that a person like Faucci is acting in good faith. What if he’s just shilling for an agenda? If that’s the case, he’s doing a great job of advancing that agenda. What if he’s more dishonest than incompetent?
