Revealed: How the US gun lobby exploits the coronavirus pandemic to further its aims [barf alert]
Deutsche Welle ^ | 04.24.2020 | Jordan Wildon

A DW investigation has found that protest groups in various US states against recent coronavirus lockdown measures were set up by conservative gun lobbyists. The coordinated effort seems to be driven by the apparent long-term aim of building a larger base of support for gun law relaxation.

This comes after thousands of people across the US organized online and started to demand an end to stay-at-home orders. Protest organizers claim on their Facebook pages that the lockdown restrictions are a result of “politicians on a power trip,” who they allege are “destroying our businesses, passing laws behind the cover of darkness, and forcing us to hand over our freedoms and livelihood.”

“Reopen America” has become the common name for these protests. Between April 8 and 16, at least 34 website addresses, such as www.reopeniowa.com or www.reopenpa.com for the state of Pennsylvania, were purchased.

These web addresses automatically redirect to pages on pro-gun sites. The gun lobby pages incorrectly claim that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and its resulting disease, COVID-19, are “far less deadly than the flu” and say, in text littered with typos, “President [Donald] Trump has been very clear that we must get America back to work very quickly or the ‘cure’ to this terrible disease may be worse that the disease itself!”

The registration of so many reopen website addresses in a short period of time led social media users to conclude that the campaign was “astroturfing” — the practice of making a campaign appear grassroots while withholding that it was organized by a single entity.

Of the 34 website addresses registered, only 16 are linked to active pages, with five tracing back to one family in the American Midwest, the Dorrs. …

These web addresses automatically redirect to pages on pro-gun sites.

A) So what?

B) What the heck is "Pro-gun"?

A couple of years ago, DW used to allow Disqus comments on editorials like these, but they scrapped that as soon as they discovered US “righties” started to dominate on there.

With a president so connected to pro-gun activism and the increasing influence of far-right lobbies on White House policy, the Dorrs could achieve exactly the kind of loosened gun laws for which they have long campaigned — and for which they are now trying to exploit the coronavirus pandemic.
Uh-oh, “loosened gun laws”.

Of course, not a peep out of them as to how left-wing state governors are actually exploiting the “pandemic”.

Who/what the heck is Deutsche Welle? All this angst about those evil gun owners!!!

They shouldn't worry, most of our politicians are working to stamp out evil gun owners. Why, Gov. Baker of MA has ruled that gun stores purvey "non-essential services" and therefore, he closed them. How reassuring to know that the right to protect life, liberty and property is not "essential."

Whatta jerk!

Two thoughts: first, the politicians are on a power trip, and second, they’re taking names now? They just proved that they are on a power trip.

Our “concerned” German friends may do well to have a look at this:

Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in America.
How is that working out?

I had a lot of relatives, from my dad to uncles and cousins who had to fight Germans and kill them in WW1/WW2 to read about our second amendment is so evil.

I guess Deutsche Welle has conveniently forgotten that neither the Nazis nor the East Germans were big believers in the right to keep and bear arms.

The beauty if it is, almost all the power drunk Dem governors have kept the liquor stores, the weed stores (where it’s legal) and the lottery ticket stores open. They deem them “essential”.
So our criminal fraternity go and fortify themselves with weed and vodka, so they can home invade, rob and pillage, but the home owner is essentially barred from buying guns to defend himself and his family.

[[These web addresses automatically redirect to pages on pro-gun sites.]]

What did they find? 1 website that did this? and now they accuse all protests of being gun lobby inspired?

The left media are scumbags-

The left was in charge of the USA when the Marshall Plan was implemented. They allowed West Germany to make a basic law that is remarkably similar to communist constitutions, thus allowing them to expand that into the European Union (and it was Kaiser Wilhelm who wanted “a United States of Europe against America”).

The seriously wounded vets who returned were often forgotten.

My Dad had a cousin who was like a younger brother. He came home from Europe with a metal plate replacing part of his skull. Extreme heat or cold were very painful for him.

My Dad suffered a broken back in a training exercise in WWI.
His older brother visited him in a Kansas hospital. Then he went home and died from the Spanish Flu. He had never been sick. He left a young widow and a young daughter.

These are just a few of the lasting negative impacts on our families who fought the Germans twice or had members killed or seriously injured.

Those Demonrat governors and mayors releasing criminals onto the streets helped out quite a bit.
