Trump Suggests Injecting Disinfectant and UV light or Something I honestly don't know Trump Suggests Injecting Disinfectant and UV light or Something I honestly don't know

"Supposing you brought the light inside of the body, which you could do either through the skin or in some other way," Trump said during the daily White House coronavirus task force briefing. "The whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That's, uh, that's pretty powerful."

Sure it can...and lung tissue is very thin and translucent.

Penetration of human skin by ultraviolet light

John L. Bezzant, M.D.

The longer the wavelength of light, the deeper the penetration of the light into the skin. Ultraviolet light is generally divided into ultraviolet C (200 to 280 nanometers), ultraviolet B (280 to 320 nanometers), and ultraviolet A (320 to 400 nanometers). Of the light that reaches the surface, ultraviolet B (mid-wavelength ultraviolet light) appears to be the most carcinogenic.

It is possible to treat blood with UV light.

I think all the members of the media should have ultra violet lamp bulbs shoved into every one of their orifices, and then plug them into an electrical socket, so we can watch the pretty light show.

Warm weather will kill the Wuhan flu just like pretty much every other flu? Who’d have thunk it? Do idiots like this author ever wonder why summer is not usually prime flu season?

But there is some evidence tanning lamps can help fight or prevent flus as well...

I wonder if blood could be run from the body through a UV system to rid it of pathogens or to weaken pathogens without damaging blood cells, and put back in, like a kind of “uv dialysis?”

Yes.

If Biden said what Trump said today, people here would be laughing and calling him a senile idiot. Don’t embarrass yourself further by suggesting we should research internal UV light as a treatment.

Why not? These are brainstorming sessions sometimes. When you work with people of quality and intellect and high value, there is no shame or mockery of outlandish ideas if they are floated. This is the difference between visionaries and people who have difficulty feeding their parking meters ... I'm just glad you and the dem-media weren't around when moldy bread was being considered as a treatment that would go on to change the disease course of mankind.

Don't embarrass yourself further ...

I watched the briefing 3 times. Here is a short video that has everything pertinent to the accusation:

Saying that he did not is a false statement!

Tanning beds! that’s it!

We should open those business immediately, and encourage everyone to get blasted by UV rays once a week. The virus will have no chance P:

Hahaha... I just thought it was funny... But who knows?... It could work..

Agreed. Lying under a tanning lamp causes your body to make Vitamin D — an excellent immune-system booster.

Tanning lamps emit mostly UV-A, which is the least-dangerous band of UV. OTOH, UV-C has a shorter wavelength, much more powerful photons, and will break apart DNA and RNA. That’s what makes UV-C an effective sterilizer — and dangerous to just about every living thing (and not-quite-living viruses). The lamps I’m expecting to receive soon come with a timer, a remote control, and a delayed start. You set the lamp up, stand near the doorway, press the start button on the remote, beat a hasty retreat, and shut the door behind you. As the lamps only sterilize what the light shines on, I’m getting two — so I can zap the room from two directions at once.

Dude, a live daily briefing is not a “brainstorming session.” Feel free to brainstorm behind closed doors.

I just saw some cartoon describing the new (not on the market yet?) FAR-UVC light. It showed it being stopped by the first layer of skin, and not penetrating the skin and damaging it like the normal UVC light in use now.

The FAR-UVC light could be run all the time in a building without harming humans. I wonder if that would still be the case if putting it down someone’s airway (without skin). I'm guessing they can't shove it all the way down into the lungs though.

I can see this kind of discussion by a CEO in the company headquarters talking with his scientists. Maybe not so much in public. I've read that the UVC damages the virus by somehow making the “T” part of the DNA (RNA?) code want to combine with other “T”s, and thus disrupts and destroys the code.

I'm guessing that folks have known about that for years, and I imagine they are trying to figure out how to mimic that type of rearrangement using drugs.

The type of UV light used for destroying harmful viruses safely in public areas, is called far-UVC light. It uses a narrower spectrum (207–222 nm) than the broad spectrum UVC light that is used to kill bacteria and viruses. UVC, because of its short wave length, also can penetrate human skin and cause cancer and cataracts. Because viruses and bacteria are much smaller than human cells, far-UVC light can reach their DNA and kill them. Far-UVC has a very limited range and cannot penetrate through the outer dead-cell layer of human skin or the tear layer in the eye, so it's not a human health hazard.

By the way, the higher the frequency, the shorter the wavelength:
