The letter was heartbreaking as it recounted the death of an 88-year-old woman in a New York nursing home. But it was also angry and accurate about a strange New York policy that is fatally wrongheaded.
I am wondering who will hold Gov. Cuomo accountable for the deaths of so many older people due to his reckless decision to place covid19 patients in nursing and rehabilitation homes, the letter began. I am writing as a daughter who lost her beautiful 88 year old mother who was receiving physical therapy at one such facility.
The writer, Arlene Mullin, went on to recount examples of the governor promising to protect the elderly because of their known vulnerability. She noted that he named his stay-at-home order after his own mother, Matilda Cuomo, and talked several times about protecting her.
My mother is not expendable and your mother is not expendable and our brothers and sisters are not expendable, Cuomo said a month ago.
Mullin had another complaint, too that the media never asked the governor about an order mandating that nursing homes admit and readmit patients who tested positive for the coronavirus, despite the extraordinary number of deaths among the elderly.
That drought ended Monday when The Posts Bernadette Hogan asked about the policy at Cuomos daily briefing. His answer was stunning.
Thats a good question. I dont know, the governor said.

Listening to government often gets you killed.
I’d rather revolt and at least have a chance of winning.
Based on the way things are going, they will blame Trump and not Cuomo.
what to do with these people from a nursing home that aren't that sick?...just keep them in the hospital?....well no...
one would EXPECT that precautions would be universal both in the hospital and in nursing homes...
except we wear our masks all day long and are in and out of patient rooms because of the shortage....
in this particular case, I guess the family could have taken the grandmother home with them.....
Cuomo is a killer. Put Covid carriers in Nursing homes when California Bans all visits by anyone. Blocks the use of Decades old Drugs that kill Covid.
Look at the death rate in New York vs All other Cities.
When is New York going to realize he is KILLING them for Political points.
They can’t blame Trump. Fedzilla changed the regs to allow nursing homes to refuse to take the patients back if the situation warranted. Cuomo ordered them back anyway.
Bump
Communal dining would be a huge problem. And most nursing homes don’t have enough staff to allow residents to eat in their rooms. Ditto for skilled nursing facilities.
But his intentions were good!
So he should get a free pass for the catastrophic results!
Tragic
Yep.
Why didn’t they put them on that empty ship or the empty field hospital Trump gave them?
Make you want to run for your life from any blue state.
The governor is certifiably shallow and ignorant. Setting aside his inability to accept any responsibility for how the virus has ravaged his state (he is depending on his Marxist media to cover for him), he made an incredible blunder today. He was responding to Senate leader Mitch McConnell's firm statement that he was not going to consider a bailout of the state's in Phase Four of the stimulus.
Looking at his profligate overspending and his impossible obligation to the state's pension boondoggle, Cuomo snarled that 'the government had an obligation to support the states.' What 'government', Governor? You are the government! Have you ever heard of the 10th Amendment?
You, Governor, ran up your state's debts and you are responsible to satisfy them. It is not the obligation of the people of Wyoming or Kansas or any other state to pay for your profligate spending.
This reminds me of New Jersey's governor telling Tucker Carlson the other day that he cannot consider the Constitution in his official decisions - that is above his pay grade.
Hello, America! You are electing idiots to rule over you!
Sad.
