Millions of masks purchased by the State of Illinois from China may not be useable by those on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, after multiple states recalled similar equipment Thursday.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has been scouring the world for gowns, gloves and masks to protect medical workers and first responders across the state from COVID-19.
An alert from the Illinois Department of Public Health followed, saying the KN95 masks may not meet performance standards and counterfeit masks are “flooding the marketplace.”
“You know things come in shipments of a million – you can’t go through one mask at a time and so you try to take samples from the shipments that come in, make sure you got what you are paying for,” Pritzker said during a press conference Thursday.
Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza also acknowledged the wild west nature of purchasing personal protective equipment in an interview last week.
“This is what we’ve resorted to these days: it kind of feels like you’re doing a sketchy drug deal on the side of the road when you’re trying to save people’s lives,” she said.
The IDPH is advising hospital staff not to use the KN95 masks during higher-risk environments, and rely on N95 masks instead.

Exactly. Why in the name of all that is good would you take PPE from that country?? I heard a few weeks ago the owner of the Patriots sent the team plane to China to pick up a shipment of PPE. WHAT??!!

If it wasn’t for the diims who would over spend, misspend, cheat at elections, create redundant welfare programs, commit voter fraud, create sanctuaries for illegal invaders, exploit a fake dossier in order to take down a legitimate Presdient, jail people who lied in connection to a bogus investigation designed to take down a legitimate President, Impeach a legitimate President over totally bogus charges, fund organizations that have no business being funded by government, funnel money through fake solar companies and the like, hire family members for high paying no show jobs?

While I’m also no fan of Democrat governors, where, exactly, are N95s available in large quantities, other than China?
This is an opportunity to kill 2 birds with one stone. Pull production of PPE out of China and put into a different low labor cost area. Mexico and Central American countries. Increase manufacturing jobs would improve those economies and lessen the desire of people there to illegally enter the US.
...also, if the masks do work at all, then they do have some value - maybe not in hospital type settings, but they’re likely better for the general public than wearing bandanas.
