CNN accused of 'literally publishing Chinese propaganda'

CNN is under fire for allegedly publishing "Chinese propaganda" in a report that cites a media outlet controlled by the Chinese government.

On Monday, CNN.com ran an article about China People's Liberation Army (PLA) supposedly having a foothold in the spread of the coronavirus in a branch of its military, running the headline, "China's PLA Navy is controlling coronavirus and aircraft carrier's deployment proves it, report says."

"A Chinese naval flotilla headed into the Pacific over the weekend, evidence that the People's Liberation Army Navy has done a much better job controlling coronavirus than the US Navy, according to a story posted on the PLA's English-language website," the article began. The aircraft carrier Liaoning led the group, which included two guided-missile destroyers, two guided-missile frigates and an auxiliary ship, according to the report from state-run tabloid Global Times."

What’s the big deal?

Isn’t CNN an asset of the Chinese Government?

The real question is why do we allow them to operate in this country?

CNN sold out years ago. They were barely surviving when they were sold to AT&T. Now, even with a cash supply, they are barely surviving intellectually. Many people quit AT&T because they purchases CNN, because most people know AT&T is a liberal cash pot.

CNN belongs to AT&T.
AT&T wants to do biz in China.

That is all.

Yet they have long performed as an asset for China.

They want to do business here, too.

I think would be fitting that they be restricted to China, based on their enemedia agenda.

That’s the whole Dem party. I’m seeing #TDS causing people to ignore CCP actions that directly led to worldwide spread of the Xi Jinping Chinese Communist Party Virus and Flu because they are so invested in the OrangeManBad narrative, and he of course totally screwed up handling of the pandemic. Despite all the things Trump did early for which he was criticized by the Left, like restricting travel from China in late January (while the impeachment charade was still ongoing).

Any news publication/channel that does business in China is gonna have a conflict. Bloomberg rents out financial data terminals in China at $22K a terminal per month. It’s 1% of Bloomberg’s revenues, but a potentially fast-growing market. In addition, having been thwarted in many ways while mayor, Bloomberg may envy the regime’s powers.

CNN’s issue is the same as that of any other news organization with TV/movie production studios. They want to sell content into the third biggest content market (in dollar terms) outside of the US and the EU. Ticket sales for Hollywood movies were $2.6b in China vs $1.1b in Japan. Then there’s streaming and broadcast rights.

Perhaps it’s time to re-institute ownership restrictions for media companies just to deal with the China problem. The traditional media companies like McClatchy, Gannett and the New York Times, ironically, have no conflict in this respect - they don’t sell into China, because the Chinese rip off their content without attribution. It’s time that any business organizations with financial interests in foreign countries beyond a certain threshold were made to divest their news divisions.

How do they explain the rest of the world’s infections?

AT&T, the real one not Southwestern Bell who bought them, was “woke” even in the seventies. I ran into some of their rather heavy handed HR types who were pushing the “diversity” line. Charlie Brown, and later Robert Allen, were CEO’s when this started (and about the time of the antitrust case) and they were either clueless or just didn’t care about the company going down the toilet.
