L.A. Mayor Wants 'Snitches' to Rat Out Their Neighbors... All for a 'Reward'

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) is encouraging residents in his city to tattletale on their neighbors who defy his stay-at-home order. Specifically, he's targetting businesses that continue to remain open despite not being considered "essential" (at least by government standards).

“If any non-essential businesses continue to operate in violation of the stay at home order, we’re going to act to enforce the safer at home order and ensure their compliance,” Garcetti said. “You know the old expression about snitches. Well, in this case, snitches get rewards.”

“We want to thank you for turning folks in and making sure we are all safe,” the mayor said during a press conference “Your decision to stay home may mean that there’s one less person who needs a ventilator we do not have.”

Garcetti’s office has already sent the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) to 144 of the more than 500 non-essential businesses that failed to follow his order. Of those, four have been sent to the city attorney’s office for misdemeanor charges.

The mayor’s team encouraged residents to submit business violations here, on the city website. It’s unclear what the so-called “rewards” will be (if anything).

The announcement comes after Garcetti formed his "Safer at Home" Business Ambassadors program last month. The program "deploys city workers and volunteers with the mayor's Crisis Response Team to businesses that appear to be out of compliance with the emergency order with a goal of securing voluntary compliance. If voluntary compliance is not achieved, the ambassadors will share information with the city attorney and LAPD for follow-up."

And if your are talking about the article focuses on businesses, I honestly don’t know which comment you are replying to, I am actually not surprised someone in some other state knows better what is going on in my town than I do.

After this is over, now that the folks have been well trained in submission to authority, the people will be encouraged to turn in folks who don’t recycle, who deny climate change, and who voted for Trump.

You really should consider Texas or elsewhere.

I’m serious.

I was born in Texas. The property taxes in Texas would kill me. California has low property tax and they don’t tax social security. The weather is just too good here. 300 days of sunshine. There’s a lot of reasons to leave, but a few to stay. I’m doing ok here.

My job is considered “essential” so I’m still getting paid. I have a couple of dozen rolls of toilet paper. I am working from home. I can actually work in a hammock. My refrigerator is full. I have a wood shop in my garage and I’m building ukuleles when I have the time. I’ve got a music studio in one of my rooms and about 30 musical instruments to play at my leisure.

Except for the fact that I can’t go to church, life is good.

But it sucks for most people, and that is bad.

Wow, sounds like he’s having a “biggest asshole Mayor” contest with Lori Lightfoot and trying desperately to win.

I’m not sure Mayors are “essential” maybe he should be locked in his house.

I’m no fan of property taxes, but how bad can they be???

That said, I’ve received no divine message, so your reasons make perfect sense...except for the hammock, which I’ve never found comfortable.

California sounds like a nightmare if I listen to the media, though. This article is another example.
