Dr. Anthony Fauci explained the moment President Donald Trump decided he needed to extend the social distancing mandate because of the novel coronavirus during a CNN interview Monday morning.
Trump changed his mind Sunday on his original plan to re-open America by Easter, announcing that the social distancing guidelines would be extended through the end of April.
Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the coronavirus task force, explained on New Day With Alisyn Camerota and John Berman that Trump listened and got it right away after being shown the data. Fauci also said Trumps first goal is to prevent suffering and death and this was part of the reason why he knew the guidelines should be extended.
You know, interestingly, we showed him the data, he looked at the data and he got it right away, it was a pretty clear picture, according to Fauci. Dr. Debbie Birx and I went in together and leaned over the desk and said Here is the data, take a look. He [Trump] looked at them, he understood them and he just shook his head and said I guess we got to do it.'

Why does this guy always have to play like he is the deciding factor in everything
maybe he is..i dont know...
But but I thought Trump was an idiot science-denier led on by anti-science evangelicals.
So they pulled out a spreadsheet and he agreed to continue the ruination of the U.S. economy? I hope the discussion was deeper than that.

I would fire that Lil Fauc.
“Why does this guy always have to play like he is the deciding factor in everything”
Really. Yesterday he said that he and Birx decided and POTUS went along with them. He’s a weasel, and I’d love to hear his cell conversations with Hillary each evening when he’s done for the day.
It will be the end of May, if not the middle or end of June.
DeWine and Acton (aka Chair Ohio for Obama) says mid April now instead of mid may.
Trump can suggest but imho it will be up to the governors

me too. This is stunning really. It’s these 2 people that are double handedly ruining America. They better be frickin right that’s all I can say
Very, very interesting exchange. Thanks for posting.
I think it was a far fetched to think everything would be back to normal by Easter..Trump is the eternal optimist, Im still hoping that somehow this can be cleared up in the next few weeks so we can go back to our normal lives
Of course it will be in the hands of the governors...just like the shutdowns across the states. Trump is advising based on the advice (good or bad) he’s receiving from Fauci and Birx. I’m sure the potential numbers of what might be if the restrictions are prolonged don’t look great...imagine the blowback if he pushed for Easter and we got an uptick in everyone’s numbers and had to go back to more severe restrictions...however, if things don’t get as bad as they think, or even improve slightly, he’s got the green light to put the brakes on the restrictions, or at least suggest to the governors based on their individual states’ condition
*aren’t prolonged
Don’t count on “normal”...less restrictive, yes, but it won’t be “normal” like it was for some time...think differences in travel post-9/11...some things will change permanently...maybe even borders??
The media is a major, strategic front in this war.
