Lots of New Yorkers and New Jersey people escaped to Detroit and throughout michigan as things were getting hot , relatives and friends there.
Delta operates a major hub at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), which is actually located in Romulus, about 20 miles west of downtown Detroit. I go through this airport about 6 times per year; it is actually a very nice, very modern facility.
