Having screwed up their medical system, Blue States Democrats want to call up the Nat Guard and Army Reserve so they can force Red State Doctors and Nurse to abandon their community to fix their screw ups.

It has nothing to do with slavery. Very poor choice of words.

Not so sure. My bro in Hawaii hears rumours of chinamen dropping from the skies. He has always been a bit concerned, at least since the missile alert.

It is apparently being sent to all those on the Army retired list who are currently receiving retired pay. And is being focused on those who were in medical MOS’s.

I do not know whether or not it is being sent to all Army vets and whether or not to those who didn’t retire but are receiving VA disability payments.

And you’ve earned the right to respectfully decline.

You might be able to work from home. Serve as you are. I would sign up at this moment in time. FRmail me if you know a way.

CJ,

The following paragraph gives contact information for those willing to volunteer for recall to active duty:

“If interested please contact Human Resources Command, Reserve Personnel Management Directorate, at usarmy.knox.hrc.mbx.g3-retiree-recall@mail.mil or call 502-613-4911, and provide your phone number, address, email, and MOS/Branch.”

But isn’t that just for those that served before? I havent. But have a certain set of skills that may be useful. If not I can mine detect. Just want to be useful. Everything else is shut down. I’m twirling my thumbs when I could be helping more.

20 year retired (1993) Air Force C-130 pilot BIL got a request from Dept. of the Air Force, back in 2011 asking if he, (and others), would be interested in coming back in for 3 years to pick-up the slack for critical AF pilots to do their misc. staff duty.

He agreed and did 3 years as the OIC in the control tower at Hickam AFB at Pearl Harbor.

Went back in as an O-4, did his 3 years and they bumped his retirement pay from the 1993 level to the 2014 O-4 retirement pay.

If they try and make docs and nurses work by mandate

I hope it isn’t needed either - but it makes perfect sense to expand the pool of potential resources and allow some mobility to regions with biggest needs.

My daughter was a traveling nurse in Upstate NY for a few years and recently moved back down to MS....two of the contractors in NY have been trying to get her to go back to work for them...with some nice incentives...but she’s under contract here and doesn’t want to be away from her kids...

Thank you for “re-upping” to take up “the slack.” You remind me of a distant cousin who retired as an infantry major in the mid-1930’s and was recalled in WW2 to do a similar “admin fill” for the duration to release younger men for combat service.

Yes, this is a voluntary recall of those who have served and are drawing retired pay. There is a clause in our ‘retired pay’ agreement that we are subject to recall for a specific length of time after retiring, ‘for the needs of the nation.’ See my post #35 to Procon regarding a distant cousin of mine during WW2

It was my BIL, not I who re-upped.

Whoops, I just realized BIL is brother in law. Then my thanks to his spouse (if he has one) for supporting him in re-upping.

(via ABC News):

More than 9,000 retired soldiers have responded to the U.S. Army’s call for retired medical personnel to assist with the response to the novel coronavirus pandemic, as hundreds of active duty soldiers deploy to support Army field hospitals in New York and Seattle.
