Heard a trucker call in to David Webb yesterday.
His complaint, States closing restaurants, Rest Stops, Fuel/Rest stations.
Truckers restricted where they can get supplies, fuel, showers, food.

It’s simple, if you have it, a truck brought it.

The last time truckers were really appreciated in general culture was like the late 70s.

That's a big 10-4, good buddy.

Article on the problem with FMCSA’s recent hours of emergency service waiver for commercial drivers:

https://sports.yahoo.com/trucking-wants-more-clarity-emergency-133727542.html

This is an ivory tower agency with drastic and punitive enforcement powers. Can’t blame motor carriers for hanging back when it’s unclear exactly what they are authorizing. These jokers have the authority to shut trucking companies down.

Emergency food deliveries are covered but not defined. “Routine” commercial deliveries are not covered. What the hell. The entire country is an emergency zone. Our “routine” consists of nothing but grocery deliveries to our stores. Demand has tripled. Having the stores run out will lead to panic and public disorder. Every load that has groceries in it is an emergency delivery for the next 30 days minimum.

The article says they’re going to mull over the confusion they caused and get back to us. That’s reassuring.

This would be an excellent opportunity for those in charge (like POTUS) to focus resources to these spots the way you do supply lines in battle. Doing whatever it takes to keep truckers supported so they can meet vital needs. Could be some major PR brownie points.

I’m a driver for a Midwest grocery chain. We’re getting slammed, but we’re keeping up so far. It was a great feeling to see the store workers hustling crates of beef and pallets of fresh produce off of my trailer and into their stock at 0500 this morning.

God bless our truckers. One of the stores of “real men” we still have in the country.

And that is what they do... they put you between a rock and a hard spot, damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Far too many “vague” laws that lack exact detailed codification, definition, and terminology. They are all now broad brushes that can be adapted in any and every circumstance at the officer’s immediate discretion.

If you are a driver you fully understand this new difference of lacking in detailed description and definition. As an example just look at the code in Ca describing what they consider a “legal Sleeping Berth”, just this description of a legal berth is over three pages in the code book. They don’t do that anymore. Now they are broadly written to be “whatever the officer chooses to call a legal berth or not”.

My youngest son is a trucker. He works for a lumber yard. Yesterday I reminded him how important he was to keeping hundreds of tradesmen employed.

They are only prohibiting non essential travel. The ban shouldn’t prohibit truckers...

Problem isn’t just the trucks. Somebody has to load all those trucks-selecting groceries for a distributor is a job I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy— they have been working 12-13 hours a day for 6 days a week now, very hard labor. This is the 3rd week.

They are resourceful. I ran into a forum called Truckers Report a few years ago and read it from time to time. It’s an interesting window into their world.

I guess one concern is having places to pull over to rest, which has been an issue even before this.

my brother was a truck driver, he passed on a few years ago, It certainly is a world all their own and he loved it! He mentioned it’s the new drivers that have difficulty finding the rest zones, seasoned drivers know where they are and plan accordingly.

Thank you, truckers! Your job is important, and not un-noticed!
