Trump endorses ex-Auburn coach Tuberville over Jeff Sessions in Alabama Senate race

President Donald Trump endorsed former Auburn Football coach Tommy Tuberville over his former attorney general, Jeff Sessions, in a tight Alabama Senate primary runoff this month.

The president cited Tuberville’s football prowess in his backing Tuesday over Sessions, who served in the Senate for 20 years between 1997 and 2017 before Trump’s administration.

“Tommy was a terrific head football coach at Auburn University. He is a REAL LEADER who will never let MAGA/KAG, or our Country, down! Tommy will protect your Second Amendment,” Trump tweeted.

“He will be a great Senator for the people of Alabama. Coach Tommy Tuberville, a winner, has my Complete and Total Endorsement. I love Alabama.

The endorsement is expected to be a blow to Sessions as the two candidates have each raced to pitch themselves as most aligned with the president.

Even Roy Moore would have beat Jones had his own party supported him. Tuberville will easily beat Jones.

Fine. Go get Mo Brooks then.

Sessions is toast and should be. I love AL, but Sessions was a terrible man for Trump’s AG and really betrayed him.

He’s a creature of the DS to some extent and is way too comfortable in DC.

Tuberville had very strong support in rural Alabama for the primary. Sessions was able to stay in the race because he claimed to support Trump and his policies.

Reality, Session with at least two other cabinet members and the FBI conspired to have Trump removed using the 25th amendment.

This is such cheap fake news. Tuberville hired one online media guy that worked for Facebook group that pushed for pro immigration policy to fill jobs but who doesn’t represent Tuberville’s position in any way. Tommy is a dream candidate for Bama, he’s young compared to Sessions and a beloved Football coach who will romp in rural areas.

Jeff opened the door for rosenstein and looked the other way. The further we get from that act, the more blatant it looks.

Sessions was not naive or weak.

He was covering up

We should stop blaming Sessions for any of the problems Trump faced with Mueller — because it was ROSENSTEIN who appointed Mueller, not Sessions.

So, you are saying that cutting and running away from it before anything happened is understandable? Sessions made everything much worse than it needed to be by doing the spineless thing. I wonder exactly what Sessions thought drain the swamp means? It is not like candidate Trump didn’t mention that is what he wanted to do during the campaign.

Great men of character rise up to the challenges and lead, Sessions failed and betrayed Trump when he was given the opportunity to lead.

Thanks to Sessions and Mueller, Democrats were able to gain the house and then the impeachment.

There is no way Sessions should be in the race.

As Attorney General, Sessions could've scuttled the coup. Rosenstein was the Deputy Attorney General, subordinate to Sessions. It was because Sessions rolled over and played dead that Rosenstein was able to do assume the reins. This is a giant thing to look past. I'm surprised anyone is able to do it.
